i live in boston, and was wondering if meter maids are allowed to remove/mess with a covered motorcycle (i.e. to see the license plate/resident parking to write a ticket).
the only reason i'm trying to avoid getting a resident parking sticker on my bike is becasue i dont' want to transfer my RI registration/insurance/license and pay all the fees and hassel.
thanks

I've never seen one do it, but in this economy, I wouldn't be surprised.
Why not? Would it hurt anything to lift the cover and check the tag?

I don't think a motorcycle cover makes your bike immune from the law. I think as long as you don't give them a reason to check it, you should be ok.
I worked in Havard sq. (cambridge) I saw covered bikes parked off the street that didn't get ticketed, They aren't allowed to lift the cover i was told. However i think on the street they would anyway. I just used to park behind my work and pull the bike parallel up to the building wall on the sidewalk next to some dumpsters so it didn't stick out further then anything else.
Like I said they say, nothing stops a party barge.

I do recall hearing that it was prohibited for Parking Enforcement to disturb the cover on any vehicle. I suspect that's why most car covers have a window to show the license plate.
just to add a stipulation
what if i used one of those dowco alarm covers. i feel like that would discourage the meter maid from touching the bike...
also, i feel like a meter maid could possibly damage your bike by lifting up the cover... like missing to detach one of the hooks, causing a scratch on the paint, or something else like that
