Do you need 2 for your bike to be street legal or are you fine as long as you have 1?

One on the left I think is the minimum.... But why?? I live with my mirrors you can't effectively look at what's in the right lane with just a left mirror. I know this from experience.
I was riding in downtown Boston 2 weeks ago and had 2 people j-walk out from behind a van literally 5-10 feet in front of me. Had to put my bike down resulting in some scratches to the paint, a cracked fairing, a broken right mirror, and a sprained ankle. Was considering just taking the right mirror off temporarily while I wait for new ones to come in and wanted to know if its ok to be riding with just 1.

j-walking is illegal in Boston...on the books anyway. The fine is $1.00. They took their chances coming out from behind the van. Dumb. Glad yer ok. Did they help you pick it up? (yeah, right)![]()

What, you don't remember that news article a couple months ago. A rider was "forced to lay the bike down in an advanced stopping maneuver" or some such shit. They must have the same style bike, stops faster sliding on it's side than on the binders w/ the sticky side down
My bikes have stopped best with the sticky side down as well. Although I hear that putting a bike into the back of a Rav 4 will stop it even faster than the brakes![]()
I dont feel right without both mirrors and big time in rush hour traffic. It made me nervous not seeing the faster dudes pull up on me at the track, can't hear them till they are flashing by me! They don't help a bit when you should be looking forward, couldn't you have just run over one of their feet instead of putting it down! What would have happened if they were jay walking and you hit one? After you slowed down of course-don't want to kill anyone.
