want to sell me a slip on
Dustin:
Putting a full system on a VTR-1000 would be one of the most expensive
mistakes you can make in terms of HP, unless you are planing on
extensive engine work. Any pair of good race slip-ons will out perform
any full system we have ever seen, so be very wise in your decision here...
We offer both the twin polished aluminum and twin carbon fibre slip-ons,
and would strongly recommend against any of the "full" systems on the
market (including our own designs) when used with a stock motor, as they
are not giving much in the way of gains versus the slip-ons. If you are
considering a "superbike" style motor with big cams, porting, pistons
and carbs, please let us know, and we will try to match up the right
products for you. Otherwise, the slip-ons are giving the best gains for
the money, even compared to the full system.
Okay start the well this is what I think..... I really want to hear from the guys that KNOW what they are talking bout... ahem, Mark speak up please
Well, I have looked into this myself. Who was that email from, TBR? I have been told that full system is a waste of money by a bunch of people with personal experience. It appears that the OEM header works just fine so it is better to just save the $$ and go with slipons. TBR told me that on our bikes slipons are good for 5 hp up top (with an even better improvement in the midrange) and that with the FS I'd gain maybe another 1 1/2 hp. Are you on the VTR list? Have you checked the VTR registry, too? I'm at work right now so I don't really have the addresses to those on me. The guys there have been really helpful in answering my questions. I'm probably going to add Staintune highmounts myself pretty soon. Staintune quality is topnotch, though you do have to pay for it. For what I'm going to pay for that setup I could have a TBR full system. The only really nice FS I've seen is the Akrapovic (~$1500!). Good luck.
EDIT: The only thing that I can really think of is that the aftermarket headers, being less restrictive, will reduce backpressure to the point of reducing low and midrange power, which is where the engine in our bikes really shines. Really free flowing exhaust systems see all their gains at the top of the RPM range. I don't know about you but I don't see redline very often on my bike. Anyone else have anything to say?

When I had my *cough*hack* Superhawk, I looked into this and found basically the same thing. The full systems'll only getchya a coupla more ponies and cost a big difference more than slip-ons. And I was consistently told that if I went full system, I'd need some extensive engine work to get the power outta it I wanted...
I also found that a lot of the 'slip ons' for it consisted of EVERYTHING except the headers. Maybe that's changed by now though...![]()
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
This is from MICRON, I have the TBR full system now, I went with the full cause the stock header looked like shit, I'm probaly going to clean them up as much as possible, then get them powder coated... When I swapped them out I did notice they were bout the same weight and bout the same bends and such....
Superhawk, I really have little time online to search for bike sepcific sites, I found there are some folks here that really know what they are talking bout... I was just thinking of stripping the bike after next season, and building it up(shut up Jay). After seeing Mike's TLR I wanna do a little customizing...![]()
