Well we have had an
oil thread
and a
seafoam thread
So a break in thread is due. Plus assuming the new/old Vstrom runs at all I will be Motomanning it over the next couple of weeks.
Newbies your choices
Factory break in like the manual says
Run it hard if you want best power
Motoman run it hard scientifically
Modern motorcycles have no need for a break in just hop on and go
I am a newbie so I will wad it up and don't need a break in

break in isn't as critical to the engine as it is the transmission

why do you wanna break your new engine?

I thought it was "Mototune"
Load and unload the motor, hard. Then change the oil after 20 miles
Ride it like you stole it.
The biggest thing is to get some good heat cycles into it to seat everything in properly.

It doesn't matter, you'll wad it up before it's through it's break-in period anyway. My guess is sliding down (and off) a wet road or the back of a four-wheeled vehicle.
After 79,900+ miles, I think I can safely say that the "Motoman" method has not hurt my bike. Still runs perfectly and does not burn oil. I think loading the rings hard when the engine is new and hot, is a good idea.
My Husky was Moto broke, don't burn a drop, valves have never moved outa tolerance and the thing still rips strong as the day I got it.

By the book here. These motors are run before you get your hands on them... so the whole loading and unloading right from the get go seems like a waste since it's really not the first start-up. Motoman break in would be more ideal for a race scenario where a re-ring is necessary more often than the street, where you don't have time to put a few hundred miles on.
But, opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one. I'll likely never buy a new bike again, but in the event that I rebuild a motor (again), I will break it in easy.
Yes at the factory they run the piss out of it for both power and torque readings
I will be power on power off for the 1st 150 miles.
Another critical aspect is the multiple oil/filter changes
I will be 50 miles
150 miles
500 miles now start full revs
1500 miles
2500 to 3000 to synthetic
If at least even with a car do the 50 miles oil change you will be way ahead
