    MSF Advanced Rider courses

Question for Degsy or any of the other MSF coaches:

I'm looking at the Ironstone ARC in Acton either April 15 or May 13. I mostly want to learn emergency braking/swerving techniques and un-learn some bad habits I'm sure I've picked up since my BRC. How advanced is Advanced?

Pretty sure I'm not Intermediate ("Not ready for the road, but have completed the Basic Rider Course"), but the site says "a minimum of one year and 3,000 miles" for Advanced. I have much more than the minimum, but the majority of that was from before a 6 year break. Then I put 1000 miles on last season. It mostly came back but I'm still not completely comfortable with sharp turns or quick stops. Do you think this is a good time to do the ARC, or should I put more miles on first?

Based on what you just said I think you are ready for the ARC.

I may sign up for this as well. Im comfortable riding, but im sure theres plenty of good stuff to learn. Im prepping to do some trackdays in the future and always eager to help myself ride better.

It's one of those things where even when you think you're doing pretty good on your own, being taught proper technique to build on will keep you from plateauing at a mediocre level.

Good choice. I think you'll do just fine.

I have been thinking about taking an ERC also. Have 8000 street miles under my belt over the last year and a half. Not sure if I would get too much out of this though for the cost.

This reminds me I need to fill out and send in the form to take this ERC this year myself. I think NH subsidizes it. I think I'm looking at $40. For $40, how can I go wrong!

Do other states have the ARC as well as the ERC? Or is CT one of the only states that offers the ARC?

The state doesn't subsidize it. NH motorcyclists do - $5 of every motorcycle license renewal and $1 of every motorcylce registration go to the Rider Education program. The ERC is $60 in NH.
