I must be on a spending streak today, after ordering new plastics for the ZX I went and picked up a pair of BT45s for the EX500. I'd been talking to my girlfriend and she is serious about learning to ride, plus I decided I'd miss the V-twin if I sold it, so it's staying for the forseeable future. The front was an Avon Supervenom and was pretty well toast...The rear was a Chen Shin Barracuda which was in decent condition, but after reading all the negative things people on the 'net had to say about Chen Shin, I figured it was worth the extra few bucks to grab a matched set, and the BT45s get good reviews for the EX. Something about having Kim riding the bike makes me more concerned with it's condition than when I was riding it...Must be either I have high regard for her safety, or low regard for mine
Ordered them online, so I'll need to find a place around here that doesn't mind mounting tires not bought there. Any suggestions? Also, what am I looking at as far as cost for mounting the front and rear? I don't have swingarm stands so I'm going to need to bring the whole bike in rather than pulling off the tires.
Thanks,
Darrell
Darrell,
I used a guy that was recommended by a friend from work. This guy is in Manchester and has a tire mounting machine and spin balancer in his home garage. He works during the day at a local garage. This guy does things right, loves bikes, and is an ASE certified auto mechanic. I don't know about bringing the whole bike to him though. Last year he charged my $30 for mounting & balancing front & rear, but I brought him the set. He did not take care of disposal of the old rubber - I got those back along with my tires.
This guy is running a part-time business, so I guess that there is nothing wrong with sharing his info:
Jim Pidgeon's Mechanical Repair

His shop is somewhere near the mall of new hampshire. I just carried my stuff to where he works during the day because it is closer to where I live.
If you want to you can bring your EX to my house and we use my motorcycle/ATV jack, or rear stand and leave the bike on it for a couple of days while you have the tires done. I have space enough for a couple of bikes.
Good luck with it.

Thanks Tim, Jim sounds like exactly the kind of guy I'm looking for, especially since he's right up the street from me. I'll give him a call as soon as the rubber comes in, see if he can fit me in. And if it's not too much trouble, I would definitely appreciate the use of your cycle jack while I had the tires balanced. I'll PM you once the tires come in if that' s okay...

Allright allright. I got that wrong too. Boxers are horizontally opposed, this is a parallel twin, half an inline four. So I'm stupid. Fuck man, you didn't have to tell *everybody*Originally posted by Stoneman
