no no, I know you were... I was just mentioning a similar race-derived feature of my bike (the launch light), which I don't use but I can see its utility for actual drag racing.

Now I'm not a track-day kind of guy, but would you ever actually use a lap timer? What trips it? How are you supposed to pay attention to it when you're supposed to be focused on riding?

thats a pretty cool feature imo. god knows enough zx-14's will spend there life drag racing.

basically all it is is a bright light on the dash that you can set to come on at a predetermined RPM, for launches. But since I don't drag and I like my clutch, I do Olde Pharte launches, slipping from idle, and thus don't need the launch light. I can see the utility of it though for folks who DO dragrace, and yeah lots of these bikes do spend their lives at the strip.

Gadson has done over 50 low 9's to high 8 second passes in a single day on the 14 without any discernable performance loss in the clutch. I wouldn't worry about the occasional hard launch. The 14's clutch is a beast.

The new bike (1098s) has been a lot of fun to ride so far.
One neat stupid little feature it has is when the fuel light goes on a special mile counter comes up on the screen (counting up from 0) so you know how far you have gone on reserve. Since I can no longer afford gas after buying the bike, it lets me push it to the limit.

Probably lots of bikes with this as well, but none that I have ever owned.

Yeah I've heard the 14 has a very stout clutch. That's cool with me; mine should last forever! Frankly, I'm kinda scared shitless at the idea launching this thing at 4k+

If you are going to launch your bike at 4K, make sure to remove your electronic sub-throttles so the ECU can't limit your power in the first few gears!

Launching the 14 is intimidating if you aren't used to bikes its size. One thing is for certain and that is it is a hell of a lot easer than launching the 12R which sits higher, has a shorter wheel base, and a sharper power curve.

I think all r1's and r6's have that feature (someone can correct me if I am wrong)

I've still got my secondaries in... I'm satisified with the stock power delivery. 50+ ft.lbs. just off idle is plenty for me.

Yeah I'm pretty much used to bikes this size; I've got 28,000 miles on my ZZR1200, but I'm not used to high-rev drag launches, simply because I don't do it. I do agree with you comment about relative ease though vs. shorter, higher bikes like the 12R or litre bikes due to the favorable geometry.

I've always loved the 12R... lusty bike.

When we get bored, me and my buddy take turns on my bike doing time trials around town with the lap timer.. Each pass we get lower and lower. And no, I am not serious.

I could have used that. On my Nova Scotia trip my light was on for a while since 105 miles or so. But gas in Canada was 5 dollars a gallon, gas in Maine is 3ish. So I said screw it, I will get gas in Maine. I had 127 on the clock and got on the ferry fine. Coming off the bike died. I had to get some gas from the FJR with us (thanks Skip). So moral of the story is. Listen to the light or miles. And dont ride with DaveDuc. I guess at a constant 90mph you burn gas???

Uh....but if you DO ride with Dave be sure to thank him for letting you use his siphon to get the gas our of Skips tanker. That way you don't look like a complete ass after pushing your bike off the ferry and through customs...

mine has a little thing called an odometer and a reserve tank. i dont need no stinkin gas light
