Long time Hawk GTracer First time Street Hawk GT rider:
100% stock; 12,000 miles and counting..........
I finally have a street Hawk GT on the road. 5 years of racing and I never knew what a stock Hawk felt like. I took the 929 off the road on Friday and transferred the plate over to the Hawk. Look for many more commuting miles in an out of Boston. 929 will be getting a 30,000 mile overhaul.
While I was in Nantasket Beach having Dinner with the wife I happened to see another Red Hawk cruising around with some Asian chick on the back. Are you here?
Initial thoughts.
Pro's over the 929:
Comfortable seating. Very little weight on the arm now I can ride forever and enjoy long trips through tree covered roads. Well as long as the 3.2 Gallon tank will carry me.
Flickable
Easier parking lot turns (wider steering stops)
Purrrrrrrrrrrring sound when hard on the gas. Stock air box and stock exhaust. (love this best. I actually rode w/out ear plugs and was not bothered)
Better fuel economy; 55mpg or so
Running thru the gears using all the power
1st gear low speed (no FI surging)
Heavily fisted starts from a stop to the left and right turns. (Just to hear the Purrrrrrrrrrr)
Cons:
No power wheelies in first gear. Will have to clutch-up now
Suspension needs some tweaking. I was actually impressed how the suspension worked. I’m going to stick with it or the rest of the year to get the full experience. I do have something in the works for improving things.
Brakes could use some enhancing. Steel braded lines should take out some of the initial squishiness but I’m guessing an air bubble is floating around. I’ll try some more bleeding to get it out.
Pictures to come:

I doubt it will be stock for long.

Stock it will remain for quite some time. I already have the Hawk on the juice so I know what the potential is. If I do anything it won’t be anytime soon. If I do anything it will be a sleeper. All internal.

You HAVE to do a rear shock... then you will HAVE to do front suspension. Then you will NEED to pipe and Jet it...![]()

Street hawk? Isn't that a down-grade... Throw a plate on the race hawk and see how far you get.
seen it in person, it is one sexy ride... we need to get a hawk cruise organized!
Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9530/4.7.0.148 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)
It doubles for track day duty too!
I seen it.

I just finished the bulk of the work converting the GS back to street duty, and got the paperwork sorted... still geared for NHMS... HAMMER it from a stop, up three gears no clutch WOT... 45mph, no laws broken, cop behind laughing his ass off as I enjoy all 40hp in town. With the suspension work I did to it, it's a good handling street machine, quite enjoyed playing with it this weekend.

Correction:
Instead of an estimated 55 MPG I'm getting an actual of 65 mpg with some heavy fisted throttle applications at every stop.
0-60 times I don't know. I have not been able to hit 60 yet.![]()

Least it is not a Kawasaki- I actually like Hondas.
Alex and I tell each other at least once a day how we will never own a Kawasaki again... Nothing personal to you Kawi people...
I might have a Honda for you ....you and it were intimate once upon a time. With a second one for Alex if he's interested. the Hawk brothers. wouldn't that be cool. they would prolly get you guys into the low 20's as they sit .... a little witer modding could get you even lower.
