How much does a nice paintjob cost?

Personally (and sorry, i'm sure it will offend some) i wouldn't pay 2k for that paint job you want on your RC, only reason being, i think it looks kinda cheesy Really, all it is is a white RC with some half ass decal kit. If i were to custome paint a bike, i would at least get creative with my own ideas. Sorry, i'm in the mood to say whats on my mind today

TWO grand to get a CAR painted? If someone quoted me that LITTLE to paint a car, I'd turn & run. As has been said Mike, you'll get what you pay for. I don't know if THIS has been said yet, but maybe get it painted, slap on the decals, then have it cleared over...

Just to give you a quick idea of what *I* think a good paint job should cost, I've gotten several quotes on getting the big truck and the Vette painted. The lowest price I've gotten for either was $3500...

here's my experience...
about 5 years ago, I painted my older xv920R, a nekid bike, front fender, rear fender, tank, a couple of side covers and the headlamp bucket.

it cost me nearly $400 for supplies using a 1 coat urethane process and a cheaper color. not reds or yellows and not basecoat/clearcoat or basecoat/pearlcoatclearcoat etc. process

then when I add in my time... it really cost me closer to $2500

it should, it's been down a couple times since I painted it, and now it's in pieces being used for my newer xv920R aquisition. .

the paint actually looked good, but I didn't detail the engine or paint the frame or replace the scratched & rusted exaust.....

of course I never washed it either

J/K, It is a nice bike, I just could never bring myself to pay that much for an R1 with custom fairings!

Back on topic: I have gone through a whole bunch of ideas for paint designs, and found the tape kit. I like it, and thats all that matters, and I know it will look good in person when it's done. If I ever crashed this will also be easier to replace than custom paint, and cheaper.
As far as the costs, I realize this paint job will cost what mike said including prep time and supplies, but I am going to do some of prep work myself, like removing old decals and stripping the paint on the tank, fender, and side cowlings, the tail section and front end dont need any to start with, just a clear coat. I will just keep the work local so I dont have to travel and it's never a good idea to get work done from friends or in this case a friend through NESR. If anything didn't go right it could make things uncomfortable here on the site or at future events.

*Hey Mark, I learned my lesson with that shop that screwed me, he only gets to change my tires now, and even that may come to a hault, but thanks for reminding me.

You are a weird dude!

I only said that because Big Draggo has a nice custom paint job and he knows what it cost. The price I gave you was under that and that was a quote because I have not seen it, like I said it could be more or less. You want something custom so it's not cheap. Yes you are going to do some of the work ,but I have to go over it because it's my name going on it.

Its no big deal that you want to use someone local, I understand. I just want you to understand.

Great price, but the catch is the plastic has to be new! Meaning no prep work needed! Price doesn't include tank either... The extra $125 is still a good price!

You' never know from looking at it, but that photo was shot outside his garage in pitch-black darkness. First time I used my battery-powered studio strobe kit. I can't wait to get more photos of bikes with it, but next time let's get some babes on the bikes!

Wow that strobe works wonders! I never would have imagined that was taken at night!
