So I went up to my parents house in North Conway to get away for the weekend, and I noticed something about the bike week crowd up there. Just about EVERY crowd of harleys had at least one sport bike with them. I dont think I've ever seen that. Usually sport bike groups with have a Harley with them (Im looking at you Wookie). But rarely have I noticed a group of Harleys with sport bikes. Up there every other group had like a single sport bike right in the middle of the pack, or parked with them. I was kind of amazed.
But if you had noticed this, or dont care, tough luck
I was at Lake Ossippee this weekend, on the ride up 16, I noticed the same thing. And then I passed them all over the dotted yellow because they were annoying.
I was up there saturday night and couldn't really tell who was with who but the ride there and back I saw a lot of sport bikes mixed in among groups of harleys and metric cruisers. I rode my gsxr up with a friend and his wife on his yamaha cruiser (forget the make), maybe they are realizing riding a sport bike doesn't automatically make you a dick. Well unless it's a gixxah...
Normally Id agree they were stuck behind them, but most I noticed were in the middle of a pack. And like with 6 bikes in 2 parking spots one in the middle was a sport bike, so I was inclined to believe they were all together.
I also noticed a marked increase in the average age of the people on sport bikes... I think that's a good thing. When I was at ZZ Top, I heard a bunch of Harley guys remarking that they saw "grown up men" on sport bikesperhaps if the demographic changes a bit, there will be more responsible riders and we won't have such a bad rep!

when i started riding in FL it was on an EX250 but i mostly rode with my dad and his HD buddies. rarely was i the only sportbike in the group. there was a former HD rider on a black bird and another younger guy on an old honda F2.
EDIT: we were usually in with 20 to 30 HDs
Sometimes Harley riders like to trap a sport bike rider in the middle of them then beat him up or not let him go.

I think that just as the "young free spirited motorcycle punk" has change into the "30 something guy that can afford a bike", the die hard harley guys have changed from "buy american only" to "60 mpg hybrid during the work week" kinds of people.
The lines are fading people. This is the 21st century. We should all be flying around like the jetsons and travelling in vacuum tubes.
