so i just sold my gixxer and i'm interested of buying 2008 cbr1000rr. but after done some researched it's seem like there was and oil burning issue with this model. i kindda worry about it, did honda do anything to fix this prob? i need some advice here, i love the bike.
For what I read on 1000rr.net it was an hit or miss. The dealership you would take the bike to would take a video clip of your bike running and send it to corporate. Corp would then decide whether to fix it or not. In all honesty I would not fuck with an 08. Main reason being that it was the first year of this ordeal.

I have an 09, and i love it however, you should be aware of more than an oil burning issue regarding some of the 08 model.
In addition to that well known issue there is also a much more important issue and that is a recall/service bulletin regarding the clutch/crank bearing, i have seen the results of when these let go and it is NOT pretty, Honda sent out a letter to replace parts on certain Vin #'s though in my opinion they did not cover enough, mine has not yet had any issues however there is a sound/vibration from the clutch area that does have my concern, if you were to call honda, they will say this is the first they have heard of this ( BS! They sent out a recall! ) Additionally, the resale value of the 08/09 has been negatively impacted due to this well known issue, in fact i know of one dealership who WILL NOT take in on trade any 08's because of this!
If the bike you are considering has not yet had the recall performed, be sure it is before purchasing ( the recall IS transferable ) and know before hand it's resale value is basically about half of what it should be.
Excellent bike IF it does not have this issue or it has been "upgraded".

I was going to buy of these - until I heard of all the issues on fireblade.org. I went running. Almost turned to a clean 09 repsol, but I went in a different direction instead.

Yep, previous to my 09 Repsol i had an 05 Repsol that i put over 62,000 miles on, ONLY issue i had was with the charging system (Replaced quickly and without hassle on warranty) I currently have 18000ish on my 09 and other than the noisy clutch (from day 1) and a bit more vibration in my opinion than it should have, its been great.

FWIW lots of complaints on the 09 ABS model about dead batteries and ABS warning light coming on. Not sure if they had problems after 09. My 09 600 has no ABS issues but the system is a bit different. Some claim its location on the 1000 might cause it to get to hot. I believe it was redesigned for 2012.

I ended up going with a used '11 model. Love it so far.![]()

no, they did not fix the problem with those years. They have only fixed it (so far no one has complained) on the later years. I would get the 2012 model !! It's a lot of dough, but it looks MUCH better !!
