I know frame sliders are beneficial to have in the event you drop the bike if it's stationary, or even at very low speeds.
Now let's say you're carving some twisties, or racing at the track at a very moderate pace. Now for some odd reason you lowside. I've been hearing at higher speeds frame sliders will actually cause damage instead of preventing it.
I've been hearing stories that it will bend the frame, the screws that fasten the frame sliders might snap and the remaining part of the screw will stay inside engine mount hole.
What do you guys think? Good to have, or better without them?
yep...all is possible...but i recommend 'em anyway...
'specially these from Axlejax Racing. I'm not sure what he makes for a Gixxer but you could certainly email him. I put these on my 750SS race bike last year. Crashed on 'em twice since then and they did the job and nothing bent. my $.02 for whatever thats worth....

there's always a risk that anything can get snagged (ie anything can happen in a crash)- that being said i would recommend the frame sliders over none any day as they have saved my bike in a lowside - would have been a mess otherwise
oh and dont get the no-cut sliders - those will bend shit
The big factor is to not be cheap with your sliders, and make sure they are properly mounted. If you buy some, make sure they mount to a strong point on your frame and are made of quality material. I have seen some that were mounted on less stong parts of the frame cause damage to the frame, which is obviously worse than some scraped-up plastics.
If you're using them to save the frame and bike short is better in a crash. If you want something to help save the plastics, you'd want something long which will do more damage in an actual crash.
My opinion is woodcraft to save the bike,
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
I'd rather protect the frame/bike, since that woudl harder to fix. Big deal if my plastics get rashed. Just go buy a new set on Ebay and pop off the old ones and put on the new. Can't really do that with the frame.
I've never heard anyone say they regretted having frame sliders. I suppose depending on the situation they would prove more useful.
beneficial, not really,
never had them on my SV, in 135,000 miles you better believe my SV tipped on its side more than once, even had a few lowsides, one of them @ 70mph
never had scratch 1 on the frame, not 1 ding in my tank. I broke a couple shift levers and that's about it.
maybe it's cause I have Napoleon Bar end mirrors
I haven't observed any difference, damage varies with the severity of the crash, sliders or not, I think that sliders are a bling gimmick for slider makers to make $$$

if you crash at high speed, you probly want the bike total and get a new one.what is this icon for?
"fuckit!"
smooth r6!!!lol i think you like the grassfilled R6 sounds more better....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
shut up chuck
hows this Kham
sliders to keep the case closed and not to save plastics, get some with a closed end so it can't get caught as easy-IE woodcraft
I have seen a crash were if he had sliders the case should have stayed closed and could have been ridden home
Another crash that the slider was kind of long and open and it pulled the bolt (which went to the motor) clean out of the frame.

those axlejak ones look scary (for the SV anyway) i use Intuitive. always have and they always work. even when amandas bike jumped the curb on it side nothing happened to them. no bending or breaking. i thought for sure it would have. i guess i was lucky.

Both myself and a friend had Cyclecat Sliders on our 750SS....they looked similar to the Intuitive...longer maybe...and everytime we crashed it would bend the bolt that ran all the way through the engine. Protected cases and prevented some fairing (sharkskins) damage but the bolt had to be replaced, and in the case of my friend the hole was elongated. Since putting the Axlejack I have crashed twice...lowside and a highside...and the sliders are fine and the fibreglass just needs a little tlc. Broken brake lever...fixed it and ran again!!!
I think the choice is really application dependant and it looks to me like Badboy has a Gixxer so I really don't know what would work best there....
