I went to a paint store in Nashua (Pines paints..pine st, nashua). He had all kinds of pictures of bikes from LRRS he sponsors/paints ect on the wall.
He recommended a quart of the "main" color and a pint of the accent color. He sold me a quart of Clear, and said that he can do a bike with that amount, but someone not as experienced will be cutting it close.
Whole thing cost $119 (reducers, hardeners, ect). I think the gold color was 60+ a quart and the black was $20 a quart (I had primer and such already covered)
A bit extreme for a track bike, yeah...but it gave me something to do over the winter![]()
does he paint?
i really dont want to do it myself.
its just one color plus # plates.

He pointed to an R6 on the wall and said he painted that one. May have to contact him and see what he can do. It was one of the two brothers that own if I'm not mistaken. The buisiness was selling paint for sure, so if he did it would be on the side I would guess.
The bike was a blue R6. Wish I could remember the number.

depends on what type of paint
if you get a paint like Nason Fulthane (got it at Sanel) the clear is mixed with the base, no need for a clear coat (what I used last time I painted anything)
also depends on the color, metalics or pearls can take 3 coats, the base color coat, your metalic or pearl coat, then clear coat on top
I know about enuf to be dangerous, but I painted my xv920r tank, fenders and small amount of body work twice (multiple coats each time) with a pint and had paint left over, the second time I added a touch of black to darken my color, but only an ounce or so, color was lighter than I wanted, only reason I painted it a second time
cannot imagine needng a whole quart to paint even a fully faired bike

I've painted my race bike a couple times with the Nason Fulthane as randy mentioned, works slick as shit. An HVLP (or similar setup) gun is pretty important and be careful with the prep work. I had pretty good results. It also only took about a pint to paint my bike.
But like Randy....I know just enough to be dangerous. It is pretty satisfying though when you're done.
I wasn't sure if I should go single stage or base/clear. Went base/clear with it. Just sprayed primer last weekend.
How much did it run you to do the nason on the full bike Ryan?
including all the primer/reducer/catalyst/etc it was like $70 or so for the all black...i did black/red once and the red paint was mucho $$
i've been trying to decide what to do with it this year
my buddy works for PPG and can get deals on small amounts of paint. i used to spay for a living many years ago.
you can add a flex agent to the clear when putting it on certain plastic parts
cool. this helps. i just happen to be delivering to the guy that owns Bens autobody up here in NH so ill talk with him tomorrow. not sure if the paint is metallic or not. it looks metallic but what do i know. if i had a place to spray and a sprayer i might attempt it but i have neither.
