After viewing everyones pics from the June 2nd track day i really, really, really have the itch to get my ass to the track.
So, i did some searching on the web and i saw that Penguin Race school has a teaching session going on this Frida June 10th.
Does anyone here have any experience with them?
Does anyone know the price on their one day school?
They have the price listed for most of their days but not the June 10th date.
I would like to attend one of Tony's track days but the next one is June 21st and I'll be in Bermuda with the family![]()
.
please Help. i want to get my ass on the track, soon!
They do a Penguin 1-day school before every LRRS Club Race weekend.
I did it last August for around $250. I had to rent leathers and boots. If you have EVERYTHING it think it's around $200. If you need to RENT everything.. it's like $500 or something (including bike).
It's the 'Oldest Road Racing School' in the USA, the Woods are fucking supernice dudes (imo) and I had a great time out there. Hope to see ya up there.
ps: I'm Bermudian by birth.. have fun![]()

Nice!
So far I've heard nothing but great things about Penguin.
As long as it doesn't rain I will definately be there.
Will you be there as well?
If so, stop by and introduce yourself. I'll be on a Red '04 Yamaha R1 with Micron exhaust, Shoei red/white/grey/blue helmet, Teknic black/gray leathers, Spidi red boots.
Do Penguin if you plan to race. It offers limited track time and the only real instruction you'll get pertains to racing, flags, start procedure, etc.
Track days are a much better choice for the first time on the track. Sorry the 21st doesn't work for you. There's a July date, which has openings.
I did a Penguin School as my first day out there. You'll spend most of the morning inside learning Racing Rule and Regulations not too much on technique. And if youre like me you'll spend most of the afternoon feeling like your going backwards. Mostly for folks wanting to race. I felt like I was fast till I did that day !
Not as "track novice friendly" as other track days. I feel like it set me back a bit. I spent alot of the time worrying that I was slowing up much faster riders instead of learning the track. I had bad dreams about hearing mad revving engines screaming up behind me in turns 3 and 10. Seriously I did ! Well I'm over it now. Would like to do the advanced one now though. I want to do a rookie race, maybe next year.
Penguin Basic - For people who want to learn HOW TO RACE
Penguin Advanced - For people who want to learn more about technique and take their track riding to the next level
General Track Days - For people who want to ride around on the track
My advice for Penguin, really utilize the Instructors during Open Practice. Ride Open Practice 1 alone.. then during 2 and 3 go grab a instructor and have em do some laps with you. Really get some good info and learn some stuff at that point IMO.

Note that tonystrackdays are more instructor oriented than most track days, and will likely become a bit more so.
so far all i've done for trackwork is Tony's Trackdays and a Cornerspeed trip at VIR... i think it's done a TON to prepare me for when i do the penguin school. i would suggest people go to a regular TD first, it'll teach you the track & some technique and you'll get a ton of practice in to work on your skills.
My first track day I started out in red group & it worked out well. next time i began my day in red but moved up to Yellow & found myself comfortable where i was. This last time i was in yellow group all day & had thoughts of moving to blue but i didn't & feel i made the right choice. next time i may move up, but we'll see.
Track days have done wonders for my technique, skills and confidence.... i'm very glad i've done them before doing penguin & am sure i'll be plenty prepared in terms of knowing the racing line & having decent technique once i go up & meet the Woods family to get my license next season![]()
