Ok, so I am all for people wearing whatever they want when riding. Its their choice, I don't agree with not having a good amount of coverage on when riding but thats my opinion. What I just saw on my way home blew me away. I was behind a guy on a Harley and he had no shirt on, swim trunks, flip flops, NO HELMET, and sunglasses. Here's the best part, he had two beanies hanging from his arms!! That's wierd cause I interpreted the helmet law in MA to mean that you must actually wear your helmet on your head, maybe I am wrong... I all for wearing what you want, but I am definately against someone putting obstacles in their way, that will completely impede in their ability to manuever their bike.I dunno just my 2 cents.
where was this? Honest I was home safe and sound![]()

There's an internet rumor story of someone challenging the helmet law (by wearing it on his leg) stating it didn't require it to be worn on your head, but worn on your body.
YMMV, snopes it![]()
Who cares? Let the dumb ass find out the hard way. When I road Harleys for the longest time, I wore the beanie, I rode with no shirt ect.. I was just lucky!
But after buying my first sportbike, and seeing what a real performance machine can do, and how fast, I changed my ways very quickly. I now ride with the best gear money can buy. And yes, sometimes I go out in dungarees, but most of the time it is full leather.
I actually feel naked without it!

at least the squids i'm seeing around here are starting to wear back protectors. over their t-shirts.![]()

Yeah it does Jane. State laws calls it "protective headgear". If it is anywhere but on your head, protecting it, then it isn't "protective headgear". It does not however specify that it must be dot approved.
It doesn't stand up in court if you try that tack. If it did, many people would ride without helmets in mass.
First fine is $35 with points (it is a moving violation and your bike will be towed at your cost). Second offense, more points and $75 fine.
You can't teach stupid, you can only sit back and watch stupid do it's thing.

One day I saw a guy on a sportbike wearing a full-face helmet on top of his head, not on his head, but so that the base of the helmet was sitting on his forehead above his eyes.

I was driving home from work in Framingham yesterday and I saw something that really bothered me. Three sport bikes went through an intersection where I was sitting at a light. The guys all had jackets (textile from the looks), gloves, helmets, and jeans on, good stuff. BUT two of them had girls on the back who were wearing short shorts, tank's and SANDALS. These guys were FLYING, probably 50-60 in a 30mph zone, I could not believe that they would have the nerve to wear gear themselves, but put a girl on the back without anything but a helmet on. WOW
My fiance's sister wanted to go for a ride one time and and she had shorts on and sandals. She was begging me and saying "just go up the road and back." I said nope, something could happen pulling in and out of the driveway and even at 10mph you don't even know the world of hurt you'd be in when your skin hits the pavement at that speed.
The F4i that I am trying to sell came with a kozy around the shifter so you could shift in flip flops????
I had to drive my kid to camp in Springfield in June, I never saw so many under dressed people on bikes. I remember this one chick two up in very thin capri pants and a cami bra??? She was pretty nice looking too, I could not imagine what would happen in a crash.
I saw another chick riding two up on the back of a street legal off road bike on 495s ( Haverhill ) in a tank top and a thong bathing suit bottom.
Also, go to the greek day at Jones beach, I don't know the weekend, same thing only for miles. Chicks are very thick though so I warned you.
Ok I forgot the best one ever. Last year I'm heading up 93 north in Mehtuen. There's a guy on a harley, the huge one that's like a rolling couch with the fairing and second seat. He's laying down on the bike taking up both seats and has his left hand about 3 inches off the pavement, this at about 60mph.
It that was not bad enough, the second we cross the boarder into NH he proceeds to remove his helmet without slowing down or anything, then continues to recline and ride on.
There was an on line article I saw before about this beautiful girl who was a passenger under dressed in a crash. She told the whole story of what happened and the days and months of being in the hospital getting skin grafts and the pain she went thru and so on. It had pictures and everything. I wish I could find that link. It is a very good read for anyone riding on a bike. The read is very humbling.
