Thanks. Signed it also. So people know what it is before just hitting the 'back' button:
Cease the funding of motorcycle-only checkpoints through the NHTSA and other federal agencies.
State and local governments have begun to implement motorcycle-only checkpoints that unfairly target motorcyclists for inspection by law enforcement officers. Implemented under the guise of operating for the public’s safety, states like New York have been able to target motorcyclists at checkpoints for vehicle and passenger inspection, even when the motorcyclists have broken no apparent laws, with no similar checkpoints being setup for automobile drivers.
Many of these motorcycle-only checkpoints are funded by grants given by the federal government, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
This petition calls for the cessation of the NHTSA's direct and indirect funding of the motorcycle-only checkpoints through its grants and other measures, and asks that the laws for vehicle conformity and passenger safety be applied equally to motorcycles and automobiles alike.

Why? It's on the whitehouse.gov website, not www.uncle-mama-joe's-house-of-spam.com.

Lawsuits and elections. About the only petitions that matter.
Okay, that is mildly cool.
So is this.
Just because some idiots posted something that also got a lot of attention doesn't mean that this one has no merit. Any petition that gets 25K signatures in 30 days gets at least a response by the govt. It's worth the 8 seconds it takes to register and sign it to me. If not to you, then I guess this is not the lazy path you're looking for.
it gets a responce from a website, not the government
ya really thing internet petitions have any validitiy
how do they verify the petitioners are even US citizens ?
how do they verify petitioners haven't signed more than once ?
it's just a feel good website that makes people believe they are being listened too, but really is just gathering information on you

Just because it's on the internet, doesn't make it useless.
In the legal "there, now you have to do it" sense, useless.
In the "guess what, this is popular" sense, not so.
I bet public opinion information taken from that source is taken seriously.
25,000 signatures = 0.008% of the population
popular, not by my definition
as I said, its a feel good website, that's it.
