This is the one I have although I paid much more than that at Best Buy:

yea, i'll pick up something like this:

Alex,
Consider your charge times before committing to USB. My palm charges slower via USB (micro, like your droid) than it uses power running shit like GPS. Wall or car charger it charges fast, USB it charges painfully slow. No idea why, but worth thinking about. Due to charge speed, I'd hardwire an actual car charger and skip the USB route.
Don't know how cheap they are for the droid as it's new (does it use a batt used on other phones?) but I was able to get spare batteries for $3 shipped. I just bought an extra battery and carry that, charged.
What I meant about the USB is the actual connecter at the phone end. I have a wall charger that is a usb charger as well and it's 3 times faster when on the wall. I think it has to do with the source and not the cable it's self.
My other concern is that is there any time of power treatment that the battery to lighter connection kits use. The only way I can describe what i mean is: Do the conversion kits change the power out put of the bike to a similar style of out put that is in a car?

almost all modern cars, light trucks and motorcycles use a 12v power system, so there's no worry about converting the "power output" to match. there are exceptions - some old bikes use 6v systems, some large (usually diesel) trucks use 24v. your sv1000 uses a standard 12v system.
the only thing you have to watch for on bikes is drawing more amps than the alternator can provide for an extended period. doing so will translate to a dead battery over time, even with the engine running.

I know that all the systems are 12v but I was more concerned with fluxuation and amp difference. I was concerned that all 12v power sources are not created equal.

The 12v power systems on a car and bike are so similar as not to make any difference.
I used a powered USB hub as a charger for all of my devices when I had my BMW R1100rt.
I broke open a regular cigarette PS (12vdc to 5vdc).
Wired the input line to the same type of plug that my battery tender used and then put the power connector for the USB hub on the output line.
I stored all of it in a tank bag.
When I put the tank bag on I would disconnect the battery tender and plug in the tankbag.
All of my devices would then be put in the tank bag and connected to the USB hub for power.

For the Droid or any cell phone that has a USB charger interface, you can't just lop the cigarette lighter plug off and direct wire it. Inside the plug end is a DC-DC converter that drops the voltage down to 5V which is what the phone needs. If you run 12V straight to the phone, something bad might happen.
When hooked to a computer, the Droid will only draw 100mA from the port to stay within the USB spec. If you have the proper drivers installed, the phone will negotiate with the USB chipset for 500mA of charging current. On chargers that don't have the intelligence to communicate with the phone, typically the D+ and D- USB lines are shorted together. The phone interprets this as being a charger other than a USB port and allows the maximum charge rate (850mA for the Droid I think).

Not sure what is used on the Droid/Moto chargers but they have an identifying resistor in their mi-usb leads that lets it know if it's a Motorola OEM charger or not.
The MIChina chargers all just copy the resistive value and none of the guts...then tell people "it's oem compatible" meaning yes, your phone will think it's getting the good stuff while it's really just getting it's electronics attached to a steady diet of junkfood.

alex just wire the cig plug under your seat and plug the car adapter in it. I know you have room under the seat. jeez.
Are you going the velcro route for the phone??? haha

I had a broken 3 way cig lighter adapter. So I took it apart and made it so I can plug it in inside my tank bag. Since I always seem to have the bag there anyway it's not a big deal to me. Then just use a car charger, I also use a 12v cig outlet-usb adapter and my cord from the house charger on my droid and no endangered animals or small children have been hurt or killed. You could also cut in a 12v outlet any where that is convenient. All I cut off from the adapter was an inline fuse. But I would rather have the fuse close to the battery so that was fine with me. Also note that I made my power on all the time but able to disconnect at the bag so I can remove all and just have a wire. If you want you can find a switched line and use a relay to make sure the aux would shut off with the bike and not drain the battery. The wire I used was a 12-2 sjo cord that's easy to find, and nice because its black and easily hidden. I only used 2 wires and tucked back the green. But you could use one wire as ground, one constant, and one switched if you wanted.
