Just brought home a new (sort of) bike for track duty.
It's a 02 yellow/black CBR600 F4i with 46 miles on it.![]()
Long story short, a kid bought the bike and dropped it. Brought it into the dealership for repairs and booted with the ins. $$ when it came in and left the dealer stuck with the bike. Tried to get a price on this bike last year but the dealer never called back with a price on it. My buddy picked it up late in the season to use as a track bike but has since had other things come up and won't be able to use it. Sold it to Double "D" for cheap $$.
Now to send it in for a "break in" and "tune" on the Dyno. Strip all street parts off and list them on Ebay. Send the bike to Peter for the suspension work and then put some track plastic, rear sets, frame sliders on and get a PC3 installed. Also have to put the Yoshi RS-3 slip-on that my buddy bought for it
Thanks Deg's for the use of the truck and helping to pick it up and get it back to my place....

You suck at life. Why don't you quit?
My dad told me I could be anything I wanted when I grew up. So I became an Asshole.
Christ man... that's rediculous.
What did you end up getting it for??$$$
Did you say racebike? That's what I thought you said.

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
Any other bike that I looked at had normal mileage for the year and was at least twice the price. Plus they all had stock suspension, which would cost more. This one with all the upgrades that I want to do will still cost me less. The only thing that I wouldn't have to do with the others would be dyno time.

That's gonna be awesome! I actually like the F4i better than the RR. It's so much more comfy that I was able to quite a bit faster on it than I did on the RR in just one session.
I'm curious why you need dyno time? will it not adjust to teh pipe on it's own? The track is the perfect place to break it in!
Congrats on the score!
Lets say I did go the track route to break it in. Should I bring extra oil to change after a couple of sessions? If so how many session should it go before I change it? It is going to get fresh oil before I run it at the track. Willing to bet that it is still the original oil and that would make it at least three years old.Originally posted by Paul_E_D

If I send it to a dyno I can get it broken in and re-mapped all at the same time..

congrats man!
f4i was my frst bike ... its a fun machine
i don't share the same opinion as Paul comparing the f4i to the RR as I find myself more comfortable going fast on the RR than I did on the f4i, but I'm a much better rider now then I was on the f4i ... so who knows.
pauls faster then me anyway, so my opinion doesn't mean shit .... lol (=

I'd bet it's better to break it in at the track under load than on a dyno. Change the oil before the track then once after the day. When I replaced the motor on my RR I broke it in on the track @ 200 miles, right to the races. The FI will adjust to the pipe but the PC will make it much smoother even with a stock map off the net. You don't need to do much too it for a trackbike, it's gonna rip. Susp work is a good idea considering your weight. You can probably sell the street plastic online and make enough to pick up some track plastics and get the painted. Maybe even have a few bucks left over.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
I have to say that the RR is the most awkward bike to ride of all the 600s I've sampled. I'm sure I'd adjust to it, but it's not a natural fit for me.
I know I'm not alone in this feeling. Tony found it awkward at first, along with pretty much all the crew at TTD.
I'm not sure because I don't race one, but it seems that most privateers really struggle to find a set up that allows the honda to compete with the other marks.
not sure ...
i like the ontop feeling I have with the RR more than the sitting inside feeling I had on the f4i.
i feel like I have more control and feedback with the rr ...
just my experiance though

I like the RR and have been really competative with it, no real problems with setup. Naz jumped on it and loved it as well, as did Degs and Heath. If I remember right Degs liked it more than his worked F4i when we ran the team challenge. Sampson was down to flat 17's on a stock RR this year for his first season racing. Maybe it's just your preference.

It's definitely a preference thing as I stated. No offense, but I was more referring to being competitive as an expert. 17s and 11s are worlds apart.
As I said, though, this is just my impression after riding it once and watching results from racing around the country.
yes, i agree that in a nonfactory role it does not appear to be as competative ... not sure for what reason

Congrats!
The difference between the RR and the F4 will be minimal for track days. The F4 is a sweet bike and I felt very comfortable on it from the get-go at Loudon. I also liked Tony's RR, especially after all the $su$pen$ion upgrades.
I'd reconsider selling all teh stock stuff. You can more likely sell it down the road as a street bike rather than an old track bike.

Not sure if that's a fact or not, but it's somethin to think about.

Nice bike!!!
I raced the F3 series for 4 years... love them! (F4's an improvement on them even)
I felt awkward on the RR for a little while... but love it now.
Both great rides.
