the bike gets stolen, you dont get points on your license. correct?
"fuckit!"
depends if you left the key in it or not.
You don't get points on your liscense but it is an "incident" on your insurance taking away some of the discounts.

Sounds like someone is planning on having their bike stolen?
If its not your fault, generally it doesnt cause you to get points or steps on your license. However any time you insurance company has to hand you money, they get mad, and as snow said you lose discounts.

Your premiums may go up but not too much.
Is there storage unit rental near you?? I used to do that. With the popularity of bikes these days...theft is bound to increase. And seeing how you have the hot bike now I would not trust just leaving it out not locked up.
It only takes a couple of minutes for 4 guys to pick it up and throw it in the bakc of a uhaul........
Can you chain it to your car or anything?
the space between the wheel spoke is too small for the chains i got.Originally posted by bigred875

I would be goin nuts... how about the axle? That'll be a pain in the ass..but.. Big ass light pole.... But an enclosed trailer and park it in there...
well there doesnt seem to be immediate solution. no light poll there. the more i thought about the more im getting paranoid. i just remembered the building workers i saw there one time in that quiet area with there trucks. they didn't even speak english.Originally posted by bigred875

I park mine in Everett on the street all the time (if you don't know everett, think lowell but slummier)
A few tricks
1) bike cover - out of sight, out of mind
2) 2 long U locks - depending on your brake rotor setup, get a U lock long enough to go through both sides of the rotors on the front as well as one of the front spokes, and long enough that on the rear you can go through the rear tire into a storm grate (a great thing to lock the bike to). You may have to hunt a bit to find a kryptonite wide enough to fit around a 180 rear, but the biggest krypronite I found was just big enough
3) a chain lock - long enough to either run front to rear between both wheels, or to a telephone pole.
Most of the time, I leave my bike with just the front rotor in the U Lock, you have to remember that those locks really are hard to get off, and some of the MOST valuable parts on your bike for resale are the wheels, so if you can keep them from stealing those, you can usually keep them from stealing the bike.
Cheers,
Chris
But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.
I just bought a bike from jim.
I think a cover is a great idea. A chain is another must I would say, chain it to something and its not likely to get stolen. Or as someone in another thread said, get a cover that says Katana!

I covered my fairings with duct tape last week because I was practicing laying my bike down and picking it back up. I decided to leave all the tape on because it makes the bike look like it fell out of a dumpster or something, and I live next to a trailer park and park in an unattended lot. so far it has not been stolen![]()
whew im relieve. it's still here.
this is f*kin weird. my new appartment is located at a dead end. when i got home around 8, 2 yound riders on 2 old kawi 500, looks like, rode in the parking lot. they park and walk up to the woods to take a leak then left. and i thought the area is well hidden. people iv seen in the building so far were old folks and retard. damn!

If you know someone with a good hammerdrill (for drilling in concrete) and the right kind of hardware, you could have them anchor something to the foundation of the building for you to chain it to. If I come accross something that looks like it'd work, I'll pass it along.
The shed idea sounds good as well. For less than a couple hundred bucks, you could get one at Home Depot (usually 6'x8'). Those are usually tin and a pain in the ass to assemble. For about $450, there's one made of vinyl or plastic. Probably not a bad investment for a @ $10,000 bike.
This one's a little under $300 and it's small. Probably be ok by the slumlord, er, landlord.

You could allways talk to the maintenance people and see about installing something like this:
http://www.parts411.com/acb/showdetl...70269&CATID=70
You should be able to get a chain through the spokes (rear at least) and attach it to that anchor point. They go down like 10" I think.
I also 2nd the cover idea.
