This morning I heard of a horrific accident involving to m/c leaving New England Dragway, leaving one person dead. PLEASE tell me that was no one from NESR...PLEASE...![]()
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Yeah, I guess they were saying it happened at like, 9:00 last night. I heard one was from Deerfield and one was from Rochester (both NH). They were young guys, and I didn't think they were from the site but it's tough keeping track of everyone that's here now...

As far as i remember we all stayed atleast until after 9pm, some stayed later.
One of us(nesr) or not it still sucks to hear about a bad crash like that, especially right down the street from a safer place to race a bike.

It BIG TIME sucks, no matter who it happens to. I lost two friends the same way when I was in my young twenties, and it hits especially hard when your young friends get killed like this...![]()

Yeah that does suck, there were four guys who left before any of us did. The one came up to me and asked as what kind of gear he needed to race. As they left, I remember saying to Kim, hey that guy doesn't have a helmet. An then remembering, the quote "Live Free or Die", in my opinion, just one more reason to have the proper gear. Brent and I both made it back to MA Ok. and Jason with the CBR1000,(who kicked my ass everytime I went against him), lives down the road, left with us.

BUMMER.... any idea what type of bikes they were riding? Glad everyone from the NESR made it home ok but yes it still does suck in a BIG way hearing of someone we may have just met/talked to or even just checked out each others bikes could possibly no longer be alive....

I agree with you totally Chip. I'm just glad that it wasn't anyone from NESR...

i agree. the helmet law should be repealed everywhere. in fact any gear should be completely optional. if you are dumb enuff to ride without it and not drive safely... then you deserve what you get... and when you get what you deserve, you will be removing the dumb genes from the human race, making future generations smarter and stronger.
Darwinism rocks.
can one make that their religion?

I'm all for optional gear.. and yes I ride without a helmet at times when in NH and Fl for bike week events when just cruising in traffic and posing.. and yes I've even done the occasional wheelie without a helmet(even though I'll still be wearing gloves and boots) (but never anything excessive or on the edge of my limits) When I know I'm going to be fucking off or acting up or trying to bang 3+ gear wheelies and scraping pegs then yeah you'll see me with my gear on.... but everyone has their own views and opinions.. and we all learn from our mistakes... yes I've crashed....lol.. a couple of times.. all with gear on.. once at only 20mph but wasn't my fault.. was hit by a truck that ran a stop sign lucky for good helmets that night or I'd be riding the short bus.... again.. Seeing how many accidents happen during bike week, cruising/posing around seems to be even more dangerous than your typical ride through traffic, I'll wear my helmet if I go up to Laconia.
Oh and I crashed my mountain bike yesterday so that helps erase any thought of skipping the helmet.

While I'm usually one to say "people can do whatever they want as long as they're not hurting anyone else"..
I'd like to see the helmet law back in NH. My first season (as JC can attest to) on my Fizzer 600 was nothing short of an idiocy-fest.
I had no idea how to ride (I thought I did, of course, hey, twist this here, click this, bike goes, right?) - but no clue on any kind of emergency braking/turning/stopping/etc technique.
And I rode around like an asshole, WAY too fast through roads that I had no business on wearing shorts, a t-shirt and no helmet (this was 4 years ago). It's damn lucky that I didn't take myself out - or take JC out, at that matter, since he was my riding partner 90% of the time.
It's just good practice. It's your head, for chrissakes.
My 2c. Flame away.

doesn't say if they were wearing helmets or not, usually that means they were, but some of youz must remember seeing these two at the track.

-tI just try to keep myself to only one or two fly over the handlebars and down a steep grade type crashes a year.
Ben
i should read more carefully...
for some reason i missed the whole "mountain" part of that, and assumed you were road-biking. (but still pedal power)

Yeah I saw four guys who didn't race. They had come up to watch, but then got interested when they saw all the bikes run. The guy without the helmet wasn't raceing, he was one of the 4. I didn't catch what he was riding. I know it was white and blue.

I remember watching them leave, because they were fucking around in front of the cop and one did not have a on. There was a red F3 or F4 and a crappy black and orange bike. I am sorry that they had to learn their lesson of "save it for the track" that way.

I don't know about calling it "learning their lesson" that's kinda harsh.. everyone sorta "matures" with the more riding they do and the more people they ride with. But as always there are those that just never think ahead or "learn" and unfortuneately there are those that "learn" on a slower curve but they insist on trying to run with others and get in over their head.. but at what point do you also look at the person they are trying to run with (assuming that person is more experienced and actually within his abilities) and wonder what he/she is thinking letting the other person get beyond their limits trying to keep up with them? (just a ramble.. I've seen WAY too many people get over their heads trying to keep up with more experienced riders... but I also blame it a bit on the experienced ones also.. in my personal book if I am running any type of group I try to ride only as fast as the slowest person is comfortable.. I NEVER want to think someone crashed riding with me because they had to ride over their head trying to keep up with the group.. I'd much rather have someone bored to death and complain it's too slow than to be picking a bike up outta the woods...)![]()
I agree Chip. Maybe learning their lesson was not the phrase I was looking for, but you know what I mean.![]()
