MEDWAY, Mass. -- A State Police officer was injured when he lost control of his cruiser and hit a tree during a police chase on Route 109 in Medway.
The police officer was doing a routine speed enforcement on Route 495 southbound when a motorcycle sped past the trooper. The officer attempted to pull the driver over, but the operator of the motorcycle would not stop.
The driver of the motorcycle exited the highway onto Route 109 eastbound, traveling at approximately 100 mph. The trooper lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree about one-mile from Route 495.
The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to Milford Hospital where he was treated and released.
The motorcycle, which continued traveling on Route 109, crashed into a sedan at the intersection with Route 126.
The driver of the sedan is uninjured, however the driver of the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was med-flighted to UMass Medical Center in Worcester to be treated.
they were both idiots. i thought they werent supposed to give chase to anything over a certain speed to prevent this kind of thing from happening?

When do you suppose law enforcement will wise up and quit trying to chase bikes?
Its one thing to try and follow and call ahead for a block of some kind, its quite another to be cowboy and take out innocent bystanders in a hopeless mission to chase down a vehicle with infinitely superior handling and acceleration.
At least no one lost their life this time.
...here we go again....
I can predict with astonishing accuracy how this will go.
47% of posters will come down hard on the cops
41% of posters will come down hard on the cyclist
12% of posters will make thoughtful comments and share the blame more or less equally.
0% of the posts will make a whit of difference except to piss each other off.

I just read about this on MDN online
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

Anyone want to buy a honda?
uh....perhaps you like to put words in my mouth. i don't see anything in my post that suggests that anyone elses posts are stupid of irrelevant. and, after seeing the same topic follow the same evolution 73 times it seems to me that an observation about how it will go...again....doesn't make me a jackass. my observations are as valid as anyone elses so pound sand....

Coming from a previous LEO I would have to say stupidity on both sides. Obviously you can see the stupidity of the rider and the officer should know better. I see the the officer giving chase to a vehicle/bike excessively breaking the speed limit. Who knows if the trooper called ahead for backup or spike strips or what not. What he SHOULD have known was how to control his patrol vehicle. ALL lEO's take and have to pass EVOC(emergency vehicle operations course) before taking to the road. The Trooper should have been in control better of his vehicle. Maybe he will learn and receive a tongue lashing from his CO but luckily hewas relatively unharmed he could have been hurt a lot worse.
Here we go..........Next month all the
State Police will receive a brand new Lotus to patrol in.
it sounds like we here a story just like this over and over again. its about time that the police are told not to give chase at speeds over 100, or depending on traffic/road conditions, and just to call up some back up farther and farther down the road. Otherwise we'll keep hearing more and more of these tragedies. If they were to make penalties stricter for the felon they would just run more often. Both the officer and the rider were very lucky, that the officer only hit a tree and made it away with minor injuries, had it been another vehicle things could have been alot worse.
