Keyless
Keys

I am completely blown away at how poorly thought out some keyless systems are. You would think they would have measures in place to mitigate such issues as a dead battery or leaving the fob behind. Based on how many stories I've heard about people being stranded, it seems many manufacturers didn't think it through.
We just bought an Acura MDX for the wife, and it seems ok but there are some issues. The second time she drove it she left the key fob in the kitchen. The dash lit up yellow when she was about halfway down the driveway, so they have that covered pretty well. Overall, her fob works great. The car locks automatically when you walk away, but not when it's in the garage (not sure how that works). When it locks you just pull the handle to unlock it. My fob is the complete opposite. When the car is in the garage, it locks as I walk away. When I'm in a parking lot, it NEVER locks so I have to push the button. I'm assuming there is a way you can set it and that mine is set backwards but I haven't looked into it yet.
For a bike, I'd rather just have a traditional key.
Yup, same on my Jeep, I didn't have it on my 2019 that I bought off the lot, made damn sure to order proximity entry when I built my 2021. Grab handle, unlocked, SWEET. On my Pan America it hasn't been an issue yet, but they are known to kill the FOB batteries if you leave them too close to the bike when not riding. I can enter a code and get running if it happens, so am not in a panic about it yet.

I forgot to mention "the code" on newer HD's. If I somehow forget/lose the fob(s) or the battery in the fob dies I can enter the code via a super-secret-sequence to get the bike up & running. If you don't carry your owner's manual, you best be memorizing said super-secret-sequence...

Which actually reminds me: I HAD to learn how to enter the code last summer as the batteries on both fobs just flat out died. Mine seemed to last only a few years before I noticed something funky every once & a while when starting the bike. Keep an eye on your HD fobs, they DO like batteries...

I gotta say, I like keys for vehicles ignition, I don't mind a fob to remotely lock and unlock doors
I read an article recently, NTSB is working on mandatory impairment (alcohol) devices on all new cars

The comment on the spare fob.... Harley - Kawi and BMW only gave me one fob per bike. If I wanted a spare I had to order it myself. The Harley was $$$ and the Kawi and BMW were insanely expensive. Still only one fob/key.

Send cash... I need a track day
Fobs have no upsides and a bunch of additional downsides ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have never used the 2nd fob that I got with my Jeep. It does, however, give me great peace of mind knowing it's there.
I wouldn't buy a vehicle that didn't come with two sets of fobs/keys. Well, until it's the norm across the board I guess...
