I love that they dont want to tell you about any of the actual parts of the bike, just the headlight and exhaust.
No lisence needed but want to know how awesome shiny loud bikes can be? Want to get your lisence and immediately spend crazy money on a bike you cant handle!? Don't care that "metric" bikes ride better and only want to be a part of a "culture"? Come on Down!
ugh..
Why would you need a license to learn about bikes? They're not riding them. Sheldon's is having one tomorrow night and I will be there as I will be teaching the riders edge course.

“It's 2 minutes for any capable adult.”
Just realized that they meant front to back not meaning those are the only important part of the bike. I still think the whole pushing a "HD culture" is stupid
The main thing they should teach is where to re-fill the oil
Had to add to my sig line....
“It's 2 minutes for any capable adult.”
Cool, I was not aware that metric bikes "ride" better...
This is nothing new. It has nothing to do with teaching anyone a thing about motorcycles, mainteance or learning to ride. It's a sales pitch pure and simple.
It may push someone that was on the fence to sign up for the course. If it helps to fill my classes I'm all for it.
Most Harleys make great beginner bikes. They are low to the ground and won't overwhelm anyone with crazy power to weight. Most have power to weight that's similar to a Ninja 300 (when you add the weight of the rider to the equation) and a lower seat. I routinely see beginners ride/walk (looks like an Albatross trying to get airborne) their Harleys at low speeds, the low seat is great for that.
The one thing about Harley Davidson is they are great at marketing. The whole culture thing people buy in to. more RUB's buy HD everything, t-shirts, bandana's, jackets, boots, jeans, belts, belt buckles... It's all about $ I worked on a guys 2003 Ultra Classic, it had vibrated out a couple of bolts that hold the exhaust to the frame, ( same bolts that held the tranny side cover on, making it leak ) When I called him and told him he didn't need an oil pan gasket and what it was. He told me I had to go to HD and get official HD bolts. I went to ACE Hardware and saved him about $25.00 Now he needs tires and told me he had to get the Dunlop tire that said Harley Davidson on the side, they are specially made for HD's. I said yea specially made to collect your $$ have fun at the dealer sipping your free coffee while they empty your wallet.

Harley Davidson is kinda like the Hummer for cars. As sheppo correctly said they are incredible at marketing.
I have nothing to justify my following statement but I wouldn't be surprised if they generated more money than all the Japanese companies in US
Hey the managed to sell an army vehicle in places like New York City.. Props to them for that. HD def took shit to a different level though
You know, I like to rip Harleys now and then too. But ultimately, I understand the attraction. Their product isn't for me and may not necessarily be for you. But for some, it's just the ticket.
A guy I work with practically bleeds BMW blue. But last week he shows up at work with a brand new Road King. He says "I've always made fun of Harleys, but secretly, I've always wanted one." And I have to say, it ain't too bad for a touring bike. Self adjusting lifters, rubber isolated engine, 6-speed trans, air suspension, ABS, frickin' cruise control. And not an once of plastic to fuck with! He claims it was cheaper than a 'wing too.
And their 'lesser' bikes are admirable for their stone simple simplicity.
As to that dealer's FB stuff. Yeah doode, it's a sales pitch. Calling it 'training' is kind of silly, sure. But hey, at least there is food!

Wirelessly posted
I'd put a VTX 1300 up against a road king in any category except "'merica" value.
C'mon, let's be real here. Who has really looked around a Harley and seen how they are made? I mean the stuff that's hidden behind the poor quality chrome.

Close your eyes, look deep in your soul, step outside yourself and let your mind go.
There are folks who go gangbusters for any brand.
How many Ducati guys do you see on their 1098/1198/1199 with the Ducati leathers, helmet, gear, etc etc.
Same for BMW, so many GS owners fully kitted in the obligatory BMW Rallye suite/advertising hoarding.
All green-gear'ed Kawasaki riders, Triumph riders wearing all triumph gear - Pick a brand and you'll find the people who buy into it far more than just a motorcycle.
Lets face it - there are people who like bikes in general but no overly heavy brand investment, and there are those for whom that kind of thing is very attractive. I like BMWs, Ducs, Lots of others - but I don't wear their gear/drink their Koolade. But that does not make me as a rider in any way 'superior' to those that do - to each their own.
I work with the CEO of my company, and he's very much in the other camp. Buy the bike, Wear the Brand - in his case BMW. I have no problem with it - its his (copious!) money to spend. He likes it that way - he's the same with his Aston and other vehicles. Buys not just the vehicle but the experience, and if that's what he wants, more power to him.
The only time I feel this becomes an issue is when the 'You cannot come play with us, you are not a True Believer' mentality rears its head. And that comes in many many forms. Be it Brand loyalty, Brand/Marque clubs, even type of bike affiliation.
