Hi, I'm 24, I've been riding motorcycles for about 2 years and I'm moving to Hanover this fall for grad school. I live in berkeley, CA and have two bikes, no car. I have an 89 GS500 that I'm going to sell this spring. My daily ride is a 2003 SV650S. These days I do a whole lot of commuting, 50 miles a day, and bout 10 miles of that is lanesplitting the 101. I've been to the track once, plan on going back two or three times between now and this fall. Moving to NH will be a huge shock for me as I've heard there is something called a "riding season". I'm not sure what that is, but I hear that most riders garage their bikes for several months when there is frozen water (aka "snow?" on the ground. Sounds pretty crazy to me.
Any who, are there sport riders in the dartmouth area? I've only been to NH twice. I saw a guy at the government liquor store riding a triumph daytona 955i, another guy in portsmouth on a VFR, and a guy in Hanover on a BMW 650 Dakar (that guy was riding in snowy weather... which was cool).
I hope to meet you all's aquaintance this fall.
thanks,
atek3
Yeah, you will learn quick about riding season. Its almost here too. You will like this group of people. Most are good riders and respectful.

Doh, only problem is I'm not moving till august... so I'll get a few good months then it's the season called "winter"...Originally posted by mycirus

can't wait to meet you all,

Not a problem, after August you'll still have 2 good months of riding left, and if you get hearty enough and can bear the "freezing cold" could still ride through November/December depending on the weather.
One neat thing I learned from my business teacher at college, who lives in Hanover........is that Hanover has no police force, period. The townspeople there always vote the option down to keep their taxes lower.
Another thing you'll probably learn is........New England isnt all that huge.So give or take, you live within 2 hours or less of most everyone that posts on this board, giving you alot of access to people to ride with.
And.......dont be a squid, keep your helmet on you damn NH'er.![]()
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.
Welcome to the site !
Hanover is @ 2 hours from me give or take....
some advice:
VT has KICK ASS roads!
DONT SPEED IN VT ! 10 mph over will get ya $165 ticket, 20 over will get ya 275-1200 in fines ( if the constable or trooper is having a bad day)
the KANC is over rated, but fun...
most people here are track junkies.
Laconia is only a few hours from ya for Bike week
some really great friends/riders to meet here

pics of the GS? how much ya asking?
Well, I'm a Dartmouth Grad student (Med) and only live about 10 minutes away from campus. I actually haven't found many other riders around here other than squids, so most of my rides have been solo.
August, September, October, and November (depending on how daring you are your first SNOW season) are great times to ride in New England. Just wait till you're on a twisty mountain road in the middle of fall foliage. Nothing else like it!![]()

Dont speed in VT? Thats like going to the bar and not drinking.![]()

The best thing about Hanover is it's right across the river from VT!
I'm always looping up and down the valley.
Sometimes I cruise through Hanover 'cause that's where the hot chicks hang out... OK maybe THAT'S the best thing about Hanover!
Welcome!

Keep yourself in check in and around town centers, and you'll be just fine.
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.
I am actually originally from that area of the state (Claremont to be exact) and know the area fairly well. You will love NH, but the end of riding season is a time of mourning...I highly reccomend acclimating quickly so you can ride year round (parking in Hanover sucks). Congrats on Dartmouth, BTW, and welcome to the board!
(and there are cops in VT, but you should never be going on the highway, anyway)

Well, I'm a Dartmouth Grad student (Med)
Actually I'm doing the revalved resprung GSXR front end/ rear shock swap on my SV650S. It will be a formidable track tool. The GS500 OTOH is limping around and would cost too much to make "trackable".Originally posted by hardcore

Pridmore's school comes to Loudon also. As far as VT roads go...they are the best in New England...BUT, they will still not compare to the canyons in California, so don't get too excited. But you also aren't going to have the CHP breathing down your neck at every turn.Originally posted by atek3

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
the sv650 is an excellent track bike BUT too much work + risk to use it as BOTH a street bike + a "real" trackbike---- when you can learn to ride Loudon on the gs500 + have fun with it + not worry about dropping, kicking,or spitting on it!!!!Originally posted by atek3
