the other day on my way home at 8:30am. i got pulled over by a trooper
that was going the other way i was the third vehicle in line and there were two more cars behind me as soon as he saw my bike he turned around and threw on his lights. he gave me a ticket for obstructed license plate. he said
it has to be visible from sixty feet away.i have an aftermarket undertail that
came with lights and all.i thought it was legal i guess not. definitely going to
fight the ticket he told me he tickets everyone that has a aftermarket undertail due to the high probability of us guys (sportbikes) to run from the
police.
But it looks SO cool! Just like Rossi!

sheet yo. you shoulda up an ran fo' sho.
yeesh. I have an undertail. If a cop is enough of a cock, he will find something to ticket you for.
I love the reasoning "I pull all you over since theres a high probability you will run". We need a law change so you can speak your mind to these guys. Im no cop-hater, but anyone who is a dick deserves to get called on it.

This is one of the reasons I like to keep my bike stock'ish.
Generally, I leave the body work, plate mount, reflectors, lights and turn signals alone. If you have all the safety equipment on there it seems to help, even though I have aftermarket exhaust.
I change the exhaust because there is a benefit to be had. ...kinda like OLDE 'N SlO was saying.
Still bullshit. You aren't supposed to hang anything from your rear-view mirror either (technically) but how many people do that (millions, but not me). It was profiling plain and simple. Dude just wanted to pull a bike over 'cause they always run' and act like Mr. Badass.
I'm not sure what your undertail looks like but I know the old one I had on my Superhawk in no way made the plate harder to see or impossible to see from 60'. If anything it made it easier to see! If you have one that clearly shows the plate, then I'd take a pic from 60' away and bring that.
If you have one of those ones that stuffs the plate way up under the tyre, off the swingarm, or some other jackhole place, then you were asking for it.
PS: Not a cop-hater.

True, I agree. Try fighting a ticket on those grounds. The plate is the one thing I personally see zero benefit and too much risk. Yes, theres a million things illegal on most bikes, but the plate seems to ire up the cops. Is it really that ugly to have it hanging off the back of the bike? Yes the fenders ugly, but most eliminators have options to hang the plate in more or less the stock location, mine on my 636 did. I was never bothered with it.
The plate ticket is one motorcycle violation you'll get zero sympathy from me about.
I love the internet.
Isn't this a 'serious' thread, why are we even here? I don't even own a streetbike. Oh on that note, hold on....
Hey dude, DO A TRACKDAY, no cops out there! hahahah

Call up his trooper baracks ask for his superviser and put in a "personal complaint " just for the fact that he profiled you for someone that did something wrong to him before . Then also get in touch with your local representive.and tell them what happened. They do not do to much but if you say that your afraid of the police pulling you over for no reason. it will have along term effect on his personal file , that follows him where ever he goes and that is not a good thing . If no one says aqnything they will keep hounding..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the aftermarket license plate is in the same location it is however angled up slightly i have now tried to rectify that by bending it down a bit but it was clearly visible from 60' before. just dont think the cop liked me.
How much was the ticket? Maybe you could put it back to stock and make an effort to get the cop to squash the ticket. It's probably only worth it if the ticket affects your insurance.
Booo hoooooooo. Good luck fighting it. Do you even know the correct procedure for fighting it?

look at it this way....he only gave u a ticket for the obstructed plate right?
how could he see your plate coming from the opposite way?
and that was his only reason for stopping u (according to the ticket). appeal & it will get thrown out in court.
It is against the law for the plate to be in a place that is hard to see. but some cops look for reasons to pull you over. I have been pulled over 4 times this year and not one cop has said anything about my plate (i have the same on as u describe).
It all comes down to who the cop is and if he has a hard on for bikes.
