So I am looking into getting my car installed with a hitch so that I can either rent a trailer on the days that I need to haul my bike up to the track or if I decide to purchase a trailer.
Is Uhaul the only place to go? I like the fact that if I had it installed at Uhaul, I will know for sure that the trailer they would rent out to me would fit. I really do not know too much about what needs to be done to get a hitch installed and trailer connected (i.e. brake lights, license plates, etc...) so any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Ebay has a lot of good deals on brand name hitches, and most are VERY easy to install. I was able to get a Curt class III hitch for $140 shipped, with the wiring harness running about an extra $30. Installation is generally straightforward, bolting right to the frame. I'd say maybe an hour. If you are somewhat familiar with hand tools it really isn't too difficult.
Check out this website as well for good deals on hitches.

E-trailer is good.

I was just thinking...I have an aftermarket rear bumper...I wonder if that would get in the way of the hitch...I'll have to look into it.
I went onto the etrailer site and it came up with this hitch which costs $170:
Is this really all it is for the uhaul as well? Does etrailer make a better hitch than Uhaul? Would I need to purchase anything else? Does it come with the wiring?
It looks like I need to purchase a power converter since my car's battery can't power the vehicle and trailer lights at the same time...
Anything else I'm missing?
Well it boils down to what you are going to be towing, and what class hitch you need.
I got mine done at UHaul, and I'm glad I did.
They had to add a hole to one of the frame rails to be able to get the nuts in there to bolt to.
Overall, i think it took an hour and a half and cost about 230 installed.
I watched him the whole time, including the wiring (which MissTwisties had an problem with) so I can fix any issues.
I towed my bike up to Tricky Mike last night and my corrolla did reasonably well with it![]()
wiring will NOT come with hitch.
i would:
-go to u haul.
-ask them about your bumper situation
-look at their hitch
-compare it to other hitch (if they look similar then who cares)
-ask if its hard to install (do you need to drill or does it just bolt up)
-go infinty dealer and see if you can order a trailer wiring kit (u haul wiring kits suck balls, its worth the extra dough to get one from the factory and have it be super easy)
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

plan B would be just to rent a u haul pick up for trackdays.

Wait...so parts (hitch and wiring kit) and installation costs $230? If it is that cheap, I'd definitely have them take care of it.
Is there a generic type of hitch that most trailers will work with or will I be safe with whatever they offer to me?
Which Uhaul location did you get yours done?
does you g35 have a back up assist???
if it did you would have to get that disabled some how, other wise it would alarm constantly anytime you were towing
the most important choice in life is if you want to be a tigger or a eeyore
i purchased a Class II "hidden hitch" for my car and a wiring harness from www.etrailer.com
Cost me a little over 200 bucks for both & I installed both myself, only took a few hours.
