The bike is a 94 Yamaha WR250 2 stroke (dirtbike). ran great on Saturday last weekend. Now I just went out and started the bike. go to rev it and it initially bogs, rev it again and it's fine. after a minute or two the revs start picking up with no throttle until it dies???? wtf???? any guesses?

Pull the float bowl and check the pilot jet.
Yeap, jets are probably gunked up
Edit....back when I had dirt bikes (all 2 strokes) none ever had a filter in the line, usually the petcock in the tank has a screened pickup, but adding a filter in the line can't hurt either, especially if you find dirt or whatever in the bowl. Might just be some varnish as well. Did you add stabilizer to the fuel before storing it last winter?
I once found a plastic shard in the float bowl...same color as the tank.

Talked to paul, think the run away revs are an air leak. Pulling apart now. Does anyone know if after market reeds use a reed stopper?
