Not sure if I read that right but it seems crazy.

Shoot I did read it right.
2013 ZX6R-636
I’m more sad about the WR.
There will be a track only bike. https://www.visordown.com/news/new-b...-r6-race-lives
Be interesting to see if they sell just a base street bike with all the street gear removed then have race kit upgrades or sell one done up that's ready to rock out the door?
This is really crazy, I always thought the R6 was one of their best selling models.

This seems like a really big deal to me. It leaves a huge gap in both size and pricing that will push buyers to other brands which to me means yamaha is in trouble.
This may be a boon to the other brands though.
300s/400s are outselling 600s and 1000s, to the point that the sales numbers aren't there to justify updating the 600 designs to meet impending new emissions standards. It's hard to get direct numbers, but if you look in 2017 in Australia, The CBR300R damn near outsold the R6 AND R1 combined. The Yamaha R3 has over double the sales of the R6 and R1, and that trend has continued. Nearly every segment is dominated by smaller machines now. Temper that with the fact that AU has a learner license tier, but I'd expect similar trends in the US as well.
What are the chances the race version comes in under $20k?
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
Sportbikes on the street are whack anyways.
Its kind of the same in europe. I believe there are 4 levels though. I still ride on my learner plates as i cant be bothered to spend the cash and time to get a license for bigger bikes so i am restricted to 125cc. I use my american license when i get get bigger bikes and insure them under that. Its a strange way of doing things but its what i do.
To be honest bigger bikes are almost a waste here in the uk. So many speed cameras and people with dash cams selling you out to the police. My gsxr 400 is just about perfect for size here. Still fast as hell up to about 70 or 80. My nsr125 is good as well. I can pretty much ring the shit out of it without to much worry of getting caught.
I might be interested in an r7 with a crossplane if they make one. Im due for a new bike next year.
Eventually, yes. I can't help wondering how Yamaha's exit changes the ROI for the other manufacturers to either a) (unlikely) continue development in an attempt to displace the R6 from race grids, or b) keep pumping out their latest-gen bike. If there's a clear #2 option (Kawi?) are they willing to keep the ZX6R going if they pick up some huge percentage of the folks who otherwise would have bought an R6?

If the MW class definition changes, as it sounds like it's going to soon in WSB, the ROI for the other mfgs to continue to develop their 600s goes away too even with Yamaha exiting.
I think the path is already laid for the other OEMs to jump out. Honda has been selling the same 600rr for how many years now. There is an article saying the new update will not be sold in the US and will not meet Euro 5, so no go in Europe either.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them step away from the 600 ss class, too.

I am in the minority who like the 600 class. Sad to see it going away. Some say the twins and triples are good replacements I beg to differ.
While the 300/400 CCs sell well as beginner bikes they outgrow them quicker than a 600. It’s unfortunate imho.

Sales in the USA are ok for middle weights. its the fact that EU sales are tanking and there are harder emissions standards to meet! Wonder what this does to the Daytona 200 going forward?
You don't outgrow 300s/400s. You may desire more HP at times in your riding life, but even the puny CBR250R is fun machine for an experienced rider. I actually enjoy small bikes MORE on the street now, coming DOWN from 1000cc Ducati Twins, 1100cc V4s, etc, being able to ride like a total tool without breaking laws is a riot.
