    R6 throttle mod for 1st & 2nd Gen SV650

Has anyone done the R6 throttle tube mod on their 1st or 2nd gen SV?

    Here's a small description:
    http://www.canyonchasers.net/shop/sv/R6-throttle.php

I have the same issue this article describes with my CBR and the long throttle throw.

    Any benefits? Good? Bad? Ugly?

Did it to my 1000 a couple of years ago and love it. No re-grip to get WOT.

I'm probably gonna do the same thing to the SV. I'm gonna wait until i trash the brand new grips I just put on since I don't want to sacrifice them yet.

Yup, I did the same thing to my old gixxer. Love it.

Just make sure you tell anyone you let ride the bike. Especially if it's a young kid that's never ridden a street bike before...

I did it on m gixxer last season too, and i like it better. GixerJackass not only gave me the year R1 throttle assembly that I needed to fit my bike, but provided the part # as well.

did it on my 07 SVS. couldn't imagine going back. in fact i might even look into a 1/6th turn since i've heard rumors that a different model R6 can be modified, albeit slightly more in-depth.

the dremeling in the canyon chasers mod is hardly technical, though...

going from 1/4 --> 1/5 turn isnt that much of a jump, especially on a SV650. it would be good to mention to a buyer, but wouldnt announce it as a safety warning.

I don't know what stock turn is on a ZX9, but whatever it was switched to (im thinkin 1/6) was enough to cause a surprise in one instance i know of...

Of course, the zx9 was good for at least 190HP. After all, it had a power commander and a pipe and stuff...

    Re: R6 throttle mod for 1st & 2nd Gen SV650

Yeah, I was using this new electronic typewriter to share humor on these interwebs I'm trying out. I mean, every ZX9 with bolt-ons is pushing 200HP, just check craigslist. Did I mention my KX125 with the wiseco top end, pipe, silencer, and all the other goodies is good for 125HP? @ the wheel, too!

    (I didn't think it'd be as funny if I said 500HP, I though I exaggerated enough.)

Cool. I ordered the part, but not from Ron Ayers, as the article suggests. They take too long to get things to me.

    Re: R6 throttle mod for 1st & 2nd Gen SV650

I just got my throttle tube today. I've already gone from a stock GS throttle tube to an SV650 unit to shorten the travel. I'm working on the assumption that if the SV tube fits, then the R6 unit should as well, and shorten it up a touch more. Out of 2, 10 and down the front straight it's a PITA to get my arm around enough for proper WOT, I'm sure I'm not always on the pin when I need to be...

I did the equivalent mod to my EX. It was 1000% necessary for me. FWIW, Jeff Wood refused to use one on an EX, he liked it stock (as told to me by BJ)

Probably a good call. I was not the one that loaned the bike though. I've never had a ZX9, my streetbikes to date are an old Ninja 750, a newer R6 & the new shitty mcbikefest that I have yet to ride, unless you could a quick parking lot spin.

That could be taken so many ways...

It really reminds me of my old 750R in a lot of ways, just without the lights and stuff and with less horsepower and slicks.

It IS actually pretty similar to that old 750R. Just slower, lighter and a little more flexible (maybe)

Got the throttle tube during the week and installed it today. Easy-peasy-Jananesey

And does make quite the difference.
