Ok...I figured I'd throw this out there for you guys..I have a friend that used to ride in his younger days( A Katana..) But hasn't ridden in over 13 years. He also has a back problem and doesn't feel comfortable on a bike where he has to lean way over on...But he likes the look of a sportsbike...And he will be riding next year after he takes the safety course again.....
Any suggestions on what kind of bike would be good for him??![]()

Yami FZ1, my Busa is really comfortable depending on if he is tall like me, I can ride for hours in an almost upright position due to long arms...
Could try like a Ducati monster or Suzuki SV
A good compromise might be something along the lines of a Kawasaki ZZR or a Yamaha FJR.
VFR's another one, I dig the Honda 919 (aka CB900) if he's up for a nikid, or the Kawi Z1000.

How about a Honda Interceptor
2003 ZX7R
1995 916
My VFR is definitely more comfortable than a full out race rep.
What else...I'd say a Katana again, but you puke on that idea. SV...ZZR...Kawasaki's got a new Ninja 650 designed to compete with the SV.
Yamaha FZ6? I don't know if a litre bike is a great idea since he hasn't rode in 13 years and it was a Katana.

if he wants to try out my yzf600r he is more than welcomed to try the seat once spring rolls around, i find it much more comfortable than most sport bikes and still looks like like a sport bike
Suzuki V-Strom 650. Kinda ugly but amazingly comfy, cheap, and fun to ride.
I wouldn't bet on the VFR personally for a person with a back problem...Originally posted by slaps76

It is more comfy then a full on race rep but the bars are still way low compared to an SV, FZ1, etc...
Might as well play it safe and get something more upright.
I think to rethink
I have a compressed L1:S5 disk.
If its a bone problem
then a sport position is MORE comfortable.
There is load on my arms but the back avoids the direct
suspension impact.
A pot hole on the BMW is worse then on my sport bikes.
If your sitting up then I would recommend something plush
like a dual purpose.
What a drag it is getting old..do some crunches you old coot

i found the fz1 i had easier to ride than my viffer. the vfr is still more compfy than any new 600 i've ridden. tell him to hit every showroom he can and try them all.
well if he likes a yzf600r i might be convinced to sell my bike in the spring for what i owe and then i can go get a bike that is way to fast for me![]()
I see..LOL I'll let him know he can try it...For a side note he looked way to funny on my 500...And he didn't think it was comfortable....And yes gettingold sucks...Originally posted by reiobard

I would suggest a standard with a set of adjustible bars, he can adjust as he sees fit. SV, 599/919, Monster, FZ, etc.

SV650 with gel seat and riser clip ons would be perfect. Need more power? SV1000s.
Too bad they don't offer the "sz" graphics package here in the states:

Just make sure to put oil in that SV before you ride it!
Why is that? 12:00 wheelie starvation?

Because in that picture there is no oil in the sight glass.![]()
