Just the same, I don't want to turn this into a gun vs. no-gun debate, but I know that I would rather have taken the safety of my family into my own hands than to leave it up to the charity of the thugs chasing me on their bikes.
I guess my point is that shooting the pricks isn't the same as fighting them. Semantics, I guess, but the gun crowd usually acts like shooting someone is the toughest thing a man can do, when in reality, almost any coward can pull the trigger.
I'm not singling anybody out on this forum with that statement. Pulling the trigger is as impersonal as it gets.

I'll bite a little since I kinda really sent us down this path.

Call it what you want. I'm not interested in "fighting" (perhaps my interpretation didn't translate well). I could give a shit about valor at that point. I would want to live (win). If that means taking your "easy" way out, I'm ok with that. It's not as simple as just pulling the trigger though. I'm sure you know (especially in MA) your life is going to be turned upside down after the fact and the fallout possibly includes financial ruin just from legal fees alone.
It's not exactly an easy decision to go down that road when you look at the big picture, John Wayne or COD images dancining in your head aside.
Sam's point that most of us have no idea what we'll truly do when faced with a situation like this is valid. He (and others) seem to be forgetting that works both ways though. While someone's personal experience may have been the odds are you freeze, there are plenty of people who also rise above what even they themselves thought they were capable of when you put their backs up against the wall.

I'm not at all trying to say I'm a tuffy and would do anything different than run some people over while my ladyfriend frantically dialed 911 repeatedly.
Who is cod?

Valid point, but that's not what you said ;)
also kinda negates what you said too.
You need to stop looking for reasons to argue with people and spend more time trying to understand what they mean.
I stand by what I said.
I don't care about the "meek" person that surprises everyone and runs into a burning building to save a puppy.
I'm talking specifically about all the people here who claim that they would have had a gun and used it in this situation.

I understood what you said just fine.
Besides, arguing makes the workday go faster.

Apparently yours does as well. I said it makes the workday go faster. .......
Just how long does it take to climb that pedestal again?

Agreed, and it might be a bad generalization to make a blanket statement that "most of you would freeze" directed towards a group who routinely risk their well being while testing such parts of the brain on motorcycle race tracks at high speed by braking later and later into every single corner, until eventually, one either target fixates (freezes) and goes down, or diverts their fixation under intense pressure to save it, and then attempts to brake at that same point, or later, every lap, from then on.
For fun.

That guy is as much a public servant as I am a turtle. I hope he goes to jail. He gives people fuel to act like... well, a lot of people on here do towards public servants.
Saying "I woulda done this" and "you have no idea what you do" is not the same thing. One is speculation and the other is pointing out your speculation. The whole "I wish I was there and had a gun" routine is usually just silly false bravado.

Yeah, I don't think anyone said they wish they were there, our even implied it. If they did, I missed it and they're crazy.
I took it more as if they where in the identical situation and if one was available what would the outcome be.

Same at the ol' One Zero. Never had one, never will. My oldest (now 22) thought it was torture for us not to have a system when she was growing up. My middle daughter (13 next week) sincerely thinks we're depriving her of a fundamental requirement to get through her teens. My youngest (son, just turned 7) has his moments but says if we get him A) a pocket knife, B) a gun, or C) a phone - he'll let it slide...
Wait. What's this about turtles again?

Re: Range Rover runs over biker(s)
I'm not playing the I wish I was there game and what I would have done in that situation however at any given day my vehicle is stocked with a cache of firearms and ammo I could take over Canada if I wanted. Luckily for the driver the thugs didn't feel like raping his wife and murdering his child in front of him, because if they did he had no way to protect his family. Personally I love my family.

Maybe somewhat along the same lines but still pretty different in my mind.
To me, it's far different to think about what decision I might make if I were in that situation than it is to wish I was there to have to make it in the first place. I hope I never have to make a decision like that in real time/life.

It should die. It doesn't deserve to be around any more.

That's right. Let the thread live.
