if i remember correctly all the breathers on those run into the airbox. most likely oil coming out of the head breather. a little oil is normal but if you have a lake of it...probably not good. could just be a little over filled. i know some bikes tend to puke oil like crazy if you accidently hit the rev limiter under heavy load, like in during a botched shift. was the bike thrashed on alot in a former life?
If it ran for any length of time on it's side it can pump oil into the airbox as well. (IE dropped while running)
Woot!!
It runs smoother than a baby's ass!! Took me a good part of the day...but I did it!
Just got back from taking it out for about a 30 mile run...damn that little thing is a fucking fun bike.
I'm no mechanic. I remember changing my wifes 2000 250s oil for the 1st time, at dusk, and missing the "clean/clear" oil line in the sight glass. Needless to say I found out it was way over when I took it for a ride and it came out the the air box I think. That was 15000 mi and several commuting seasons for me. Still runs like a champ..

I do all the oil changes so I know it was not overfill.
It would run at full choke at about 5k, but the second you touched the choke or gas it would die and was running super hot.
Cleaned the carbs, found a clogged low jet, drained the gas, oil change, stuck a new fuel filter in and she runs like a dream!
Today, I get to teach her to ride it all over again. With any luck she will be too scared to ride it and I can go play.
Seriously came home with the biggest smile after having played on that thing yesterday. I got her up to 100 and you can just flick that thing all around.
Now I am sad I sold my many years ago.
