If the parts guy was truly a good salesman he would have played on the track day idea and offered up ideas like frame sliders, dampers, shark skins, sticky tires, etc. Or maybe even
gear, since all he was rocking was a helmet.

... here's my .02.... Making a bike faster is different than making the rider faster/safer. If he/she wants to make the bike accelerate harder, a track day isn't gonna help... but if he/she wants to learn how to sharpen his/her skills so that they can make any bike they ever throws a leg over and get more out of what they've got and at the same time be a safer rider, then track days & rider education is the way to go.

The problem is how the customer asked the question.
He asked to make him faster, instead of asking to make his bike perform better. Everyone mods their bike, and that was what he meant.

I couldn't agree more. Integrity is key. People will buy something once, and never come back, if they were lied too. It takes honesty and integrity to keep people as loyal customers. something we do very well. We've been in the motorcycle business for 35 years.

My "new" method is...

He/She naturally says yes... and VOILA... here's a trackday brochure.

It would be a great answer if track days were $50 a piece and around the corner. Five days of riding for $1000+ is pretty pricey for most of us. Then there's travel time and days off from work. Real cost for a single day could be on the order of $500.

Track days will never be a substitute for street riding. Plus there's the sheer randomness of street rides and discovering new places.

Sometime the track day positivism strikes me like something from an episode of CHiPs where Ponch and John catch the rebel kid and turn him on to Track Days and everyone is happy.

I guess until I break into a bracket where I am paying the alternative minimum tax they will be something occasional but neither essential nor frequent.
