    Reevu Helmets, What's your opinion?

I noticed on here someone posted a link about the Reevu Helmets and I thought the idea was cool. A co-worker of mine had bought one over a year ago and found that even when measuring his head the helmet that arrived was still a bit big on him. He stated it was a nice concept but when at speed (100+) the wind would make the helmet move around and render the rear view useless. Also at speed the wind would push the top of the helmet into his forehead making it uncomfortable. He brought it in today for me to take a look at and I wear a S and his was L so I could not test it out on a ride, but the optics seemed a bit skewed and blurry when looking at it with both eyes open, closing one eye made it no so blurry.

I was thinking about picking up one of the "newer" models but first wanted to see if anyone here has used them and has actually gotten one that fit properly from measurements. What are your thoughts on the new model, does it work better than the old model (if you've used both)?

If you have not yet heard about this technology you can see it at the following links:

I guess its a decent concept but why not just either learn to adjust your mirrors to do the trick or replace them with one's that do. I have napolean style bar end mirrors by Rizoma and they show me everything very well (sport bike stock mirrors generally suck)

Yea i'm sure you can buy mirrors to give you the same view but I have not seen them. My stock mirrors show more of me than what's behind me, even when pushed out.

I am just intrigued by the concept and would like to get feedback from those whom have used this system.

I had a chance to check out one of these helmets a few weeks ago. You need to adjust your vision up, almost like you would look up at your own eybrows, to check the mirror. To me it seems safer to keep your eyes facing forward and use your side mirrors instead.

Your not supposed to do that. You are supposed to use your peripheral vision to check. If you dont use it properly then yes I could see it as a safety issue.

yea it's something I want to put some thought into before buying it though because I tried on the oh so comfy Shoei RF-1100 and need to decide between the two lol.

Have you tried Bell helmets yet? If not try on the vortex, rs-1 & star.

Overall these things just don't seem worth the money.
I put some mirror extenders on my bike. I have no problems adjusting the mirrors to show completely behind me now. Plus they cut down on the wind noise and turbulence. All for ~$50. And I get to keep the helmet I like.

I have not, I will try those next before making a decision. I tried on a handful of Arai, Icon and Shoei and the only one that actually fit properly and comfortably was the RF-1100

Definitely try on the Bell line before you buy a helmet.

I was set on getting an RF-1100 and tried on a Star (which was about the same price) and decided to go with the Bell because it just fit my head better.

Then I tried on the Bell Vortex, which was less than half the price of the Star and RF-1100 (and nearly identical to the Star) and went with the Vortex.

Every head is different though, but I found the Bell line to fit my head better than any other manufacturer.

the rear veiw thing would be a cool feature but the real question I would be asking myself... is the helmet going to protect my brain better than the Shoei...

I'd answer that question and then decide.

I had the same issue and got some GSXR mirrors with the blinkers in them and modded them to fit my Honda base so it was a bolt on mirror.

They work awesome and I can see everything behind me and as a plus people infront of me can actually see my blinkers really well. At night i find them to be super bright when stopped at an intersection and it keeps the inspection guy from mentioning that i have flush mounts in the spring.

if you want to do this i can help you.

Re: Reevu Helmets, What's your opinion?

yea from what I have read the protection in the helmet is top knotch. I am not quite sure how it would compare to the shoei but would be interesting to see some test results.

As for the mirrors on the bike, I was thinking about doing the Trippage mirrors but $300 for mirrors is a tad much for me. Could you post some pics of your GSXR Mirrors on your bike so I can see what the finished product looks like? I would be interested in seeing it from a distance and up close so I can see the bolt mechanism.

Ok so the 1000rr mirrors do look great (and better than the GSXR mirrors) and I would have bought them myself if they were about $230 less. The are $330 and with options can go all the way up to $400 that is IMHO a rip off but I can see why they are that expensive. he is buy OEM mirrors and reselling them and they are most likely $110 a pop from HONDA as i looked at stock ones for my bike that they were $60 a piece and had no blinkers in them

You could probably buy used ones and do the same thing he did. the wiring is easy and we can make the quick connect too as I have that on mine.

I think the GSXR mirrors do look great though. i will get some pictures for you i don't have any and my bike is down the street where I store it... EDIT: if you search on 600rr.net you'll see a guy who did them and has posted up some pictures. they look better on the newer CBR's like yours than they do on my 05.

I got to see one of the older models in person. A co-worker ordered one on Dec 4th 2009 and they started selling the new model Dec 9th 2009 so he missed getting the new model by 5 days lol

I would love to see a new model in person but from what I have read and seen online there are no US distributors yet not to mention in MA

They have assured me that I can buy the helmet and cheek pads to get the perfect fit. While they did not state it I hope they meant I could order a few find the one that fits and return the others that I would not need.

I liked the older model that my co-worker has but the image was a bit blurry and skewed both issues I guess they have made "better" in the new model.

I'm almost thinking a small LCD on the cluster or near it connected to a mini cam off the rear would be good for seeing behind you too, just not sure where that could be mounted and waterproof lol

if that was case i wouldve returned the helmet for numerous reasons, not least of which would be fit, but if a new model came out a few days later i would ask if i could return the old model and pay the difference to get the new model

i think it is an extra distraction.. i dont use mirrors i look back if i need to see anything behind me but the bike doesnt spend much time stopped or slow speeds therefore i dont feel the need from them..
im aware of the benefits and the dangers but thats my decision

Yep many times over and for around 50 bucks but that is not for waterproof display. Not sure how much those are. Will edit and add links when i get back to my desk.

    :EDIT FOR LINKS:

    http://www.r6-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137624 <-- installed

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Night-Color-...item20b73b7473 <-- Night Vision 120 degree Camera

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5-TFT-LCD-...item5d2d91e180 <-- 3.5" 2-ch lcd display

As I mentioned these video displays are not waterproof, I'm sure for a bump in cost you could find one however with a quick google search I could not find any. I probably did not use proper keywords because
all the hits I was getting were related to Garmin GPS units, cameras, etc.
