I was reminded on Saturday that respect and contrition can go a long way with the police. I was ripping the motard on some twisty roads and was nabbed by a well-hidden cop. He motioned for me to pull over and I promptly did so. As I took my helmet off, the first thing I said was: "I'm sorry officer." I told him that I've only had the bike several weeks (true), and became a bit overzealous with it...and apologized again. He then told me that I was clocked doing 59 in a 25...I said I did not know that I was going that fast, and apologized. He then told me that he was letting me go, and to mind the limit because the corners created blind hazards. He said that me pulling over and being very respectful was why he was letting me off. He said he's seen bikes take off, and that if I had done that, he wouldn't have caught me.
Note that going over double the speed limit is a criminal violation in Massachusetts. I could have been in some serious trouble. I was wearing gear, and it was clear that despite my speed, I was not a punk.
It was a good reminder of how respect and contrition can serve you well in dealing with police.

NO LIMIT
Thank you for writing this thread.![]()
I have been pulled over twice this year for speed issues.
Both times I was cool and respectful.
Both times I was asked to "take it easy" next time.
The second stop I was doing 52 in a 25 zone over in NH.
Maybe my metric speedo helps me get out of these?![]()
I got a catch and release on Saturday too by a NH State Trooper. 93 in Manchester in the new construction area I just came off 101 to 93 south. Here's a run down:
He was on the side of the road out of the car, stood in my lane and flagged me over.
Before I even get my helmet off:
How you doing today officer?
Pretty good. Do you know the speed limit here?
No Sir, I didn't see the last sign.
It's 55.
Do you know why I pulled you over?
[mild laugh] Well sir since you pulled me over for this little chat I was probably going faster than that.
[Laughing] Yea, I got you at 85. It's a nice day, if I was on my bike I'd probably be doing 85 too. You have your license?
Yup, it's in my trunk sir, you mind if I get it out?
Go right ahead.
*takes it and goes back to the cruiser and I take my gear off*
*He comes back*
I'm giving you a warning. Be safe out there. What branch or service were you in.
6 years active Air Force.
Thanks for your service.
And thank you for yours.
*He then yells at the other 3 cars that pulled over when he flagged to get out of here*
Moral: get vet tags and be nice.

Alex, when I got pulled over it was when I left you and your GF when you guys were going for sushi.![]()
I got stopped the other night coming back from the AC/DC concert 49 in a 30 .. I got lit up, signalled I was pulling over, shut the truck off, interior lights on, Window down, hands 10 & 2. He asked if I knew why, I told him I am sure I was going to fast. Where was I coming from, The AC/DC Concert. My license was in my pocket the reg in the glove box, let me reach for them. Told me to slow down, thanks for being honest and courteous. My son was with me, he's 20.. As we pulled away my son said WTF I would have been ticketed. I told him always be honest, courteous and grey hair counts for something![]()
Glad you didn't get a ticket. I'd have felt midly bad for dragging the old man out at night and then getting him busted. lol
