Renting a bike in San Diego.

Headed west in a couple weeks with Jackie for a few days & we're thinkin bout renting a bike for a day or two while we're out there.

Anyone have any personal experience renting a bike in the San Diego area?

    Motorcycle.

Mostly looking for people with recommendations for places to rent from. I'm down for renting just about anything immaginable under the sun as long as it's a cool bike, comfortable & fun to ride. I'd even consider cruisers.

Re: Renting a bike in San Diego.

The best rate I've found so far is from MotoQuest in Long Beach. It is a little over an hour from Long Beach to San Diego. (Or at least to Oceanside, where I am going.) And from what I've seen, I think I can fly BOS to LAX for a less than flying to SD anyway.

MotoQuest looks to rent F700GS and F800GS. Which I think I'd be okay with. Although I think I'd rather ride that Tiger.

Curious what you end up with.

It's 2 hours to drive from San Diego to Long Beach so looking for something a bit closer. I looked at flights to/from LAX and for the dates we needed they were about the same price. My hearings are in San Diego so I'd much rather fly directly there.

Re: Renting a bike in San Diego.

I'm in long beach...stopped into motoquest before too...can do local legwork if ya need it

if ya want stay local to SD (I haven't checked all the options from SD), the eaglerider Tiger or bonne are good options...but personally I think the Tiger is a good option for anything

so how long and how much riding, and what config (2-up?) are you guys looking to do? and on what dates?

still got my FZR 6 hundo...

2-up riding for a day or two, sometime between 2/18 and 2/22.

Appreciate the offers but I feel a little uneasy about borrowing a personally owned bike.

I rented a streetglide in San Diego for the wife and I back in October. With fees and taxes it was 147$ for 24 hours with a evening pickup/drop off.

I'd do it again for sure. They had loud radios.

I asked my friend who lives in San Diego if he knew of any rental places. He said he would try this place called Google to find one.

Is mileage usually unlimited? Multi day discount?

Re: Renting a bike in San Diego.

    My research shows:
Usually, but not always unlimited miles. (I haven't seen a single place list restrictions, but I have been warned to check the fine print.)
Yes, most offer multi-day discounts. But from what I have seen the first break in pricing isn't until at least 4-5 days in.

The few times I've been out to SD, I've always wanted an ADV-type bike to go exploring on some of the dirt roads outside the city. Wouldn't want to ride in the city though.

Re: Renting a bike in San Diego.

Summer of 2012 I rented a air cooled Multistrada from these guys. It was a good bike for exploring the area and a guy from a BMW forum took me on 300 mile tour of So Cal. Honestly, it was probably the best road ride of my life. The only downside was that the bike had side luggage on it and I wasn't comfortable lane splitting with them on. So that end of the day, the last 10 miles of parking lot highway was a bit of a nightmare with fears of over heating the bike (super hot day) and insane arm pump on the clutch side.

Re: Renting a bike in San Diego.

Ended up going with www.sporttouringmotorcyclerentals.com after seeing what bikes they had available and reading a couple of reviews on yelp.

Steve runs the business out of his garage which I guess is pretty typical for sport bike rental places out there as most dealerships outside of Harley Davidson don't want to bother w/ the liability. He was super nice, great guy to talk to... and amazingly accommodating, letting me return the bike at absolutely whatever time I wanted, which ended up being at 9 o'clock at night.

Got a Multistrada 620 which worked out great. Jackie & I took an easy scenic cruise down hwy 101 from Oceanside to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve and back.

Not a bad view at Torrey Pines

Yes. We rented a couple 14's and a 13. I think the 14 had Bluetooth.

Glad you went with Steve's business. He was really helpful to us although I ended up getting a Harley. (Rest of the family wanted to get Harleys) He has a fuglistrada1000 I may rent in the future.
