So this is how my ride home from work went....

63 year old man in a Toyota Camry decided to not come to a full stop on a side street, and took the left turn in front of me. I was going fairly slow, but the side street he was coming out of was on my right side, as I was coming out of a uphill right hand turn, so I only saw him as he rolled through where he should have stopped and directly in front of me. I hit the brakes and swerved right to duck behind him onto the street he had just pulled out of, but like a deer in headlights, as he saw me coming at him he got on his brakes, sending me sideways into driver's door, pinning my left leg inbetween my bike and the car. Just got out of the ER, no broken bones but a badly bruised leg, fairly sprained ankle, and a bruised nerve, giving me this nasty pins and needles feeling from my knee to my toes. Here are a couple quick pics I grabbed with the camera phone.

So this is how my ride home from work went....

Both officers who responded stated that he was clearly at fault, and issued him a written warning for failing to come to a complete stop. Kinda pissed that he only got a warning.

And thanks everyone for the support.

Looks like you faired pretty well, same with your bike. Hopefully your knee will get better with the nerves, those things aren't easily fixable.

    Coulda been a lot worse!

Glad to hear you're ok, stuff like that happens all too often on the street.

Were you covering your front brake at the time? The .5 seconds it takes to go from fingers around the throttle to squeezing your front brake can mean the difference between life and death. Not saying that you should have to be covering your front brake at all times in an ideal world, but as I'm sure you'd agree accidents on the street don't determine who's right, only who's left.

I cover my brake always unless on the slab. Sometimes you can't avoid shit.

It was right next to the resevoir basically. And as long as my hospital bills and my bike get paid for I really don't know if I wanna deal with the bullshit of going to court for more money.

That sucks - glad to hear no one was hurt seriously. It could have been a lot worse.

The written warning is a good thing - it adds to the paper trail proving who was at fault - and who's insurance needs to pay for the medical bills and bike repairs.
