I use my Droid X as a GPS device on my bike.
I have My Tracks, Google Maps and a few oher apps but I am experiencing difficulties getting it to work the way I want it to.
I would like to be able to create a route using map software on my PC like maps.google.com and export it to my Droid. This is so I can get turn by turn instructions for ride routes.
I can view the map I created on maps.google.com on my Droid but when I select Navigate it discards my imported route, recalculates and provides a new route to the destination.
Does anyone have a Droid solution that they use regularly?

Not possible w/ Google Navigation; that doesn't accept imported routes from Google maps. Best you can do w/ Google is just leave Maps on w/ the route layer enabled. You won't get turn-by-turn and all that other navigation jazz...just be able to look at where you are on the map.
Not sure about other navigation apps.
poop.. yes this would be nice.. I haven't ever had a gps that would let me do that either..
This would be nice. One thing about the android OS and any of the official Google apps is that the developers are pretty active on the discussion boards, and take comments and ideas to heart. That would be something to mention to the Google navigation team.
EDIT: A quick google search shows a few posts from june of last year talking about this along with mentioning that the google developers are aware of the feature request and are looking to incorporate it.

In the meantime they've had a beneficial effect on Garmin map prices. Garmin has reduced prices on updates and some models now have "free for life" map upgrades. They are clearly feeling the effect of smart phones.
To get weather and traffic updates on the Zumo 665 I'd have to pay $10-15 a month for a satellite subscription. Smart phone - that's free.

I found the same info. I also found that Google released a Maps editor that a bunch of people liked that did the job.
Unfortunately, the Froyo release broke it and it was removed fom the app store. I cannot find any information concerning its repair or if anything will replace it.
I never got a chance to use it so I do not know if it would have been sufficient for my needs.

I think this is one of the biggest negatives about gMaps. I was very surprised (and disappointed) to see that the app can't handle navigating along a "My Maps" route...
/threadjack - I also really want a scale on the maps, to know whether something (ex. traffic, or a particular exit I'm not navigating to) is 1 mile or 100 miles away.

On my navigation (Droid) the g-maps has a traffic updater which starts drawing the colors when the speed goes down... although it certainly doesn't go down to the mile.. it can give you an easy approximation, plus it also changes my destination time. I've done this on my boring commute home.. cool beans, but doesn't help me either way because I have to stay on the road![]()
I did notice that one update seemed to make my navigation crash all the time... uninstalled it and it was all good. It just updated again today, we'll see what happens![]()
I have begun using my Droid X as a GPS. Very impressed so far.

Gmaps will put the route up on the screen but as bill mentioned it won't run the navigation based off it.
Definitely wish there was something that integrated in better so u could make a route and then let the navigation give ya the turn by turn and moving map.
