So should I be looking into becoming a Range Aid? Is this how you usually get started in all this?

I was never a range aid, I just shadowed Degs for a day (but then again, I'm not sure if Joe just kinda overlooked some of the pre-requisites or what.)

Not a big deal, Seems like a fair request. Looking to set myself up for staying involved with the motorcycle community over the long run, and giving a little back at the same time.

Definitely good to know, and any amount of $$$ would help me at anytime, ESPECIALLY during the race season, but not my main reason for doing any of this.

I am interested in becoming a MSF RidersCoach. I like long hours, short pay, and a kick in the balls at the end of the day. I think I will fit right in...

I live close the the RI/MA line so I would be willing to do either state's curriculum if not BOTH. Looking to get my foot in the door right now if possible.

I taught in 2 states for a few years (MA & NH), and it's a huge commitment because you'll have to go to 2 annual updates and teach the minimum # of courses in both states. It ends up being a lot of weekends.

But it is a blast being a RiderCoach.

Best decision I ever made to become a coach. I was actually a range-aid for a whole summer prior to going into the program. Really helped me out as I knew range set up and coach locations prior to the workshop.

That is how I did it. I was a range aide for 2 years before I was old enough to become an instructor.

I helped select Coach candidates several years ago and one of the primary things we looked for were a person who demonstrated the ability to communicate clearly in front of a class full of people. We also looked for maturity, intelligence, and the ability to ride very well at 20 mph.
Oh, and you have have a boatload of patience and be good with people.

The same criteria listed above applies to becoming a trackday instructor, except you should substitute "20 mph" with "120 mph".

I'm in the process of filling out the application for the Rider Coach program. It's good to know that the taking the basic rider course requirement within a year isn't set in stone. I did it two years ago and have close to 30,000 riding miles since then.

Streetwise has some pretty cool guys coaching, I did their BRC with my girlfriend when she was getting her license 2 years ago

Those days are not quite as bad as when it is cold and raining...there is no such thing as staying dry for 8-10 hours in the parking lot.
