Well I will say the grocery list isn't all that exciting right now. And don't you know I recently erased all the races from my dvr to make world series room. I'll be an expert in law and order trivia in the next couple weeks.

Though I've only met a few of you in person I want to thank you all again for the well wishes and watching some of the banter back and forth on this forum is some good entertainment.

I headed to docs with chest pains and shortness of breath last wednesday. Ran all the tests and suspected a clot on a lung.
Turns out I have pleurisy. Scared the shit out of me though.
I had Pleurisy years ago, was very painful, take it easy for a few weeks and you should be fine!

Well the bike just got picked up for winter storage. Seemed weird. Maybe I'll just call it a long service appointment and get some work done on it.

Quick google search produced this blast from the past http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0901072035.htm

Can any one with a medical background or experience validate this? Might help both donors and recipients.
    Any one?

    karate snoops -

honestly, it's hard to say looking at something "high level" like a news article - by the time a journalist does their best to summarize it, we've lost a lot of the content of the study

I'd need to look at the original data, the kind of study, the patient population, the study endpoints, & stats to better interpret what it means

the MD says he will do a randomized clinical trial (the strongest type of study there is out there) later on...I'd be interested in that

I can relate. It's tough to accept that these things happen. But they do.

I just happened to find that article with a google search but the thing about clots and reducing the risk of a heart disease by donating blood is something I had come across decade and a half ago. I will try to see if I can find something more concrete

Re: My riding season ended suddenly and not like I ever predicted

I have been looking for more information in regards to donating blood. Found the reference to "The New England Centenarian (people who live past 100) Study, conducted by Boston University’s School of Medicine". in a book called the "Four Hour Body".
    "
More than estrogen, it’s thought to partially explain why post-menopausal (but not premenopausal) women have a similar incidence of heart attack to men.

Dr. Thomas Perls, gives blood every eight weeks to mimic the loss of iron due to menstruation, which he believes will increase his longevity.
“Iron is a critical factor in our cells’ ability to produce those nasty molecules called free radicals that play an important role in aging.… It may be as simple as having less iron in your body.”

Some studies suggest that bloodletting also improves insulin sensitivity.

    "
I am signed up for donating blood this evening, win-win if you ask me :-)
