So, I am currently fighting a cold like illness... Coughing, runny nose, congestion, sore throat, etc... The weather outside is perfect take your bike to work weather! However, I find myself generally "off". When I'm sick, my judgment is off, I'm a bit slower, tend to hurt myself @ work more. So when my coworkers asked me where my bike is, I tried explaining I wasn't comfortable riding... I spoke to one of my friends about it, his response, "no matter how I feel, once I'm on the bike I'm in the game" - whatever that means.
Point of this thread... Is it just me? Am I totally bitching out on nice days of riding for nothing? Or am I playing it smart, since I don't necessarily trust myself right now?
Your thoughts/input!personal experiences? ...
If you ain't first......you're last!
Playing smart. No question about it, if you dont feel comfortable, dont ride.
I don't ride impaired, I dont even take the chance. If I've had more than one beer or a little bit of other controlled substances, I leave the bike. If you're feeling off your game play it safe and leave the bike at home.
That said, a cold??? Come on!!!!!
I have visions of boogies and phlem (sp) flyin inside your helmet.... now thanks!

Typically I don't ride if I'm sick expecially if I'm taking meds for it.
I do the same thing. If I'm sick I won't ride, or if I feel like I won't be able to focus 100%. Even if it's a day I'm just feeling "off" I won't ride. It's not worth it.
do you drive a car when your sick ?

Are you sure it's not allergies??
more than likely its just allergies. happened to me. my allergies got so bad it led to coughing, sore throat, sinus infection, need an inhaler for now, etc.,etc....
but it didnt really slow me down to the point where i was dropping things or felt tired. although the meds i take, i take at night so they dont affect me during the day.
but if i felt out of it or "slower", than no i wouldnt. last thing i would want to be on a bike is slower. especially with the increase in traffic due to the weather. besides it is hot out. take a car that has A/C!![]()
feel better!
I ride when sick, but that is me, I have the ability to put these things aside for a while. I am sure that it makes recovery time longer, but i don;t let colds slow me down.
You know yourself better than anyof us do, and if you don;t have the ability to "get in the game" 100% then keep it in a cage.
If I wake up exhausted and barely keeping my eyes open or just feeling off I'll stay off the bike. To many things you need to be aware of to ride when your feeling "off"
If my sickness includes a runny nose...no I won't ride (or chills). Only other reason I won't ride is because I need my morning cup of coffee from DD's. I think I am going to get those magnetic side tank bag that has a built in cup holder. I need my coffee at 2am.
If you equilibrium is off, I would not.

+1.
That said, I don't let feeling a bit under the weather keep me off the bike. In fact, I've found that going for a ride usually makes me feel a lot better -- fresh air, a little activity, etc.
Obviously it would be a different story if I found myself with a 102-degree fever, massive headache, and sudden nausea, but luckily I never get that sick.

If I am feeling like I have been run over by a bus the last thing I wanna do is get on the bike and actually get run over by a bus.
Hope you feel better soon.
+1 on the rest of the comments. You will have plenty of nice days to ride... risking it while feeling shitty just isn't worth it. Clean the bike, do any simple maintenance you have been putting off, but don't put yourself in a dangerous situation. Hope you feel better soon!
I just passed up a ride because I had a shitty day at work and I just wasn't with it. Soon as I pulled in to a left turn lane when I meant to go straight and sat there at a green light until I pissed off everyone behind me I knew I wasn't game for any sort of moderate paced ride. If I'm not feeling it I don't bother. There's no point if you're not having fun.
I'd rather play it safe than end up picking it up out of a ditch or peeling it off the side of another car!
