Whats up,
I just picked up my first bike, and am trying to get everything figured out so I can ride it ASAP. It's an '84 VF500f Interceptor in the blue paint scheme. I took a test ride from the previous owner on my way up to Burlington last Sunday, and after about 5 minutes of riding around, I was pretty damn sure I was going to buy it. I called the guy up, confirmed the buy, and met him on Tuesday to pick the bike up. Anyway I'm in the process of getting insurance, and getting registered + inspected.
I have two questions now,
1) Has anyone ridden a Bridgestone BT-45 rear tire? I am planning on ordering one as the bike is desperately in need of a new rear tire
2)Does anyone know a respectable place to get my bike inspected, as well as the tire installed, in the Burlington, VT area?
Sorry for the tease, I'll try to get pics up soon, but my camera is in my storage space!

All you ever wanted to know about those early Honda V4s.

Congrats and aon taking a riding course.

Now that's one that I want to see pics of! I so want my Uncle's friend's '83 1100F.

my dad had a V65 Magna...it was fast
it was the V Max before there was a V Max
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

I wanted a V-65 Sabre myself. Pretty damned fast bike, IIRC, a tick or three faster than the Magna.
BT-45 was a good sport touring type tire. I believe I had one that came stock on my ninja 650r and I got over 6k miles on it before it really started to square off.
As far as changing tires, check out the guys at Roadside Marine in Williston. Prices for tire changing around Burlington are a bit high ($35 with the tire off the bike) but they should give you a break if you order from them. They are also stand-up people when it comes to service/inspection as well. you can't go wrong with them.
I think i've seen your bike on craigslist a couple of times. Good luck with it and hope you get on the road soon.
Nice bike. Congrats. I had an 85' 500 intercepter. Great first bike that will keep you smilling for a long time. I ended up selling mine for what I paid for it after 3 years and only put tires on it
I have used the BT45 on my Ninja.
No complaints but try to get a V speed rating rather than the H.
They are on sale online at denniskirk.com.
Dunlop may still have a GT501 available and the Michelin Macadam or Pilot Activ(new) are also good choices.
I believe michelin has the Pilot Road 2 which is V rated, and dual compound for sport touring. haven't tried it but i'm sure it will work well for you also.
Go to Roadside marine. I have yet to see anything that I bought cheaper on the net, tires may look cheaper, add shipping and then they cost more to mount.
They will inspect it as well.
Great, honest, people.
OT
It pays to play.
Ride fast,
You will get farther before it is over!
+1 on Road side. Much better shop than the other guys down the road.
Do the old V4's have whacked out tire sizes? Probably shouldn't suggest too many modern tires
But I will say, make sure the rear tire you choose matches the front, same make / model. If the front has a decent BT-45 on it, no cracks, dry rot...then get the BT-45 rear.
Congrats on the new to you ride...and definitely sign up for MSF asap if you've not taken it yet.

I took the bike for my first real ride yesterday, up through the champlain islands on 2 all the way to new york. Had no issues in terms of driving/traffic, except for once when a motorist signalled a turn and then didnt take it, but all in all, it was a huge boost to my confidence. I still need to order the rear tire so I can get the bike inspected, but I'm still within my 15 day lenience period as perscribed by the DMV. Payday is friday so hopefully I can get the whole thing done then.
