The best reason to safety wire your brand-new street bike is: it will force you to properly torque everything, to know where to drill the holes. It's amazing how many loose bolts I've found.

I ride a lot od washboarded gravel roads.... I've thought about safety wire but haven't done it yet and I should, havng shit fall apart on the street isn't any safer on the street than falling apart on the track
