I don't know....still thinking a full face shield. Can't get my head around what happens to a face that's dragged on asphalt. And I think that in a lot of ways a scooter is a bit riskier than my Strada, for example...!

For sure. 60mph is still 60mph, plus the wheels are smaller and the suspension is much different. And yet...knowing all this I still rode around the whole time in shorts and a t-shirt.

I would completely agree with you on that. It's just funny to see this guy in his color matched outfit looking like a preppy STIG getting off a 10hp bike. I will admit to riding it in the parking lot, it is pretty fun.

I used to ride a 50cc two stroke Italjet around Windham in full race regalia. One piece, pucks, boots, helmet, the whole works. Loved that lil machine.

I picked up a white 1984 Honda Spree the end of last year (September-ish) - love having my little scoot-scoot up at the track!
It's at the shop getting painted at the moment

My vintage scoots are packed away and all need a bit of work, but here are pictures of the models that I have (all nicer examples than mine, admittedly).
    A 1964 Vespa GS160 (160cc 2-stroke), a 1962 Maico Maicoletta (275 2-stroke), and a 1960 Heinkel Tourist 103A1 (175cc 4-stroke OHV).

Thanks. The Heinkel has the most story behind it. It was ridden over most of two continents by the previous owner, and then was my daily transport for about 5 years before I bought the Monster. It's got about 80K miles on it.

I like those and toy with getting a Big Ruckus. Scooters are huge in Boston and Mopeds are now cult machines. A friend of mine has two classic Vespas in his basement I've been trying to extract.

This guy in Southie (and his dog) always puts a smile on my face.

That looks very cool - but, I don't believe it's actually a 'moped' as I see no way to 'pedal' it...!

+1 on the lead a ride with it. I think you need another ride on the calendar; a 'little bikes' ride.

Since we're dragging the discussion to mopeds. My first ever motorized bike was a Puch moped similar to this:

My dad had it on extended loan. We cleaned it up, got it running, and I ripped it around the neighborhood for a summer before he sold it for the owner. I think I once saw 30 MPH on the speedo, riding down hill, with the wind at my back, in a full tuck. Rode it all over my corner of town without a license or any form of registration .. and never got a second look. Pretty sure you can't do that no more.

Nice acquisition Dave! Is there going to be a Seacoast scooter ride this year?? I am potentially acquiring an Aprilia SR 50 with an 80 cc bore kit and a pipe this summer. It will be sweet to ripe around Portland. When I lived in Jersey and worked over the river in PA, I used it to commute every day!

There is a huge scooter/moped culture here in Portland. They organize rides and tear up the city sometimes. They even did this last year: http://bennetttheredonethat.bangorda...ath-race-2013/

I've got a coworker who has an old Chinese scooter that he was going to try to revive, but he gave up on it and offered it to me. I've been toying with the idea of getting it running and using it as a summer toy.

Wow....a small bike/scooter ride? That could be a lot of fun as long as Tricky doesn't think we've all turned into 'Mods'!

What would be a cool destination for a ride like that???
