I don't often find a new way to F up anymore, but, it happens.
When I bought the SV in the fall, I did the normal streetbike storage stuff and parked it for the winter. Well, turns out the cooling system was full of straight water. I didn't know this until after I tried to start the bike, when it was making some pretty bad (clanging/banging) noises and dripping water.
I drained the oil, and, well, it's all water oil mix, as well as additional water.
Do motorcycles have freeze plugs? How screwed am i here?
Also, wil a stock Ninja 2005 250 be usable (safe) for my TTD tomorrow? (I'm 170 lb). The FZ1 is apart for fork seals.
I deserve some ball busting here, but if you guys could wait until after the initial shock has worn off, that would be great.

Sounds like the motor is hurt. It will take a tear down to determine how fooked it is.
Load the 250 up and have fun.![]()
Looking at SVrider, I'm not the only one to have done this. The freeze plugs blow out and it's no issue. I just hope I didn't do any damage by trying to start it.. Not sure where the banging and clanging came from...

If there are freeze plugs, and they did give way as they should, I'd estimate you wouldn't have a oil/water mix situation.
Time to tear it down.

nothing like leaving scotts for 15 minutes to grab beer and install a printer and coming back to a bucket full of oil and water
The freeze plugs are under the valve covers - water (and sometimes the freeze plugs themselves) travel down into the sump. If the plugs made it down there, it would be the source of my banging/clanging. I guess I'll be two-fiddying it tomorrow, and at a minimum tearing all of the covers off (valve, clutch, generator).

You may have just fucked up the seals in the coolant pump. Hence the milk. As for the banging? Like metal on metal banging, or a a fucked impeller in the waterpump banging?

Close your eyes, look deep in your soul, step outside yourself and let your mind go.
if the freeze plugs popped water could have gotten anywhere. hate to say it but if it got into one of the cylinders your probably hydrolocked it and those bad banging noises indicate something expensive broke.
best bet . . . . find a new motor IMO

Do a compression test....
Pull the plugs and crank it over... see if there's any noise. If yes... it's deep inside... If not..it's a wristpin/connecting rod issue. If it ONLY clangs when running, it's stuck in your water pump or transmission.
What do you hear exactly?
- Sounds like chain on the ground?
- Sounds like squealing?
- Sounds like grinding?
- Sounds like a dime thrown into a fan?
Dripping water is a good sign... that means the plugs did release.
The LEAST amount of teardown you have to do is removing the valve covers, water pump and sump pan. So, take the 250.

if it was dripping after you cranked it over find where its coming from could have thrown a rod through the block . . . . not kidding seen it happen to a civic
