Keep it forever and start hording spares now. It took me like 10 years of slowly collecting only mint parts for my 01 gsxr to finally decide I had enough to last a lifetime or one very bad accident.
The street stuff is long gone... no interest in having this a street bike again in the near future, although maybe I should find fairings/lights for if I stop taking this to the track so at least it can still be ridden. But I can probably get away wiring in a cheap headlight, brake light, and bolt up a plate like a lot of people get away with around here. I do get nervous riding Dad's bike since I don't want it damaged beyond my control and people around here suck.
I do have a spare tank, wheels, etc to keep it on track. They ran this generation for so long I feel like I should be able to find any parts pretty easily for a long while.
20 years with these bikes. Can’t believe it.
Missing my dad a lot, figured I’d recreate the photo but clean up the background a bit.

The photo with the empty bike hit me right in the feels
FWIW the picture fucked me up off and on for a day now. I miss my dad too. Great pic.
I would keep the Honda as long as you can. Race bikes come and go! Great Picture!
Not sure what I was thinking 10 years ago but these bikes are family and neither will be leaving me. I recently bought a set of street bodywork for the R6 as I seem to be in a bit of a trackday/race slump again, so might mount those up so I can still enjoy the bike. They're the OEM limited edition Fiat/Rossi fairings & tank, only 220 made.
Does PNO help with the cost of the track bike?
Glad you’re keeping them!!

The R6 is still titled in IL but I haven't paid registration there in ~16 years. TBH I don't even remember if I just stopped paying or sent in a formal PNO. I'm sure it will transfer to CA just fine either way. Or maybe I add it to my collection of South Dakota plates haha
Not to steal your thread but I have something similar going on. I had my brother ask me to buy his Harley last Fall when he got cancer. He needed cash and his prognosis was not good as he knew his life was going to be short. He did pass in February and now I have his bike in my garage. Sadly I don't ride it as I am not into the Harley scene.
It's not the same depth as your dad but yes I get the attachment thing.
