what is the difference between these two types of master cylinders?

Tuono
The first one is a horizontal piston style pump with an intergrated resevour.
The second is a radial piston style with a remote resevour.
Maybe someone else could chime in and give the benefits of both designs. Sorry for the spelling errors, it's still early in the morning.
id also like to know the pros/cons of each. ive only seen the second one on "higher end" bikes so im assuming there is some kind of performance gain?

A radial pump is more efficient and offers better feel. The other style is usually spec'ed on bikes due to cost since the MC housing and the resevour are cast as a single piece.
About $300! (difference)

The only real difference is that a conventional MC has to take a sharp 90% turn with the fluid. Where as a radial mount the lever pulls directly to the piston.
My stock MC was like the one in your first pic.
Last season I used a Brembo conventional mount MC and it was GREEEEEEAAAT!
Next year I will be using a radial mount Brembo MC. I will let you know what I think![]()
