RIP
That's a damn shame.
From the article:
she was struck by a silver 2004 Volvo station wagon driven by James Carrell, 78

Some interesting stats...

1999 US elderly driver statistics:

Per mile driven, drivers 75 years and older have higher fatal crash rates than drivers in other age group except teens.

Per licensed driver, fatal crash rates rise sharply at age 70 and older.

Those 80 years and older have the highest pedestrian death rates per 100,000 people–three times higher than their younger counterparts.

People 65 years and older represented about 13% of the population and about 17% of all motor vehicle deaths in 1999. By 2030, the elderly are expected to represent 20% of the population.

More bike fatalties

I was going to post this today as well...I have heard of several car-bike accidents in recent weeks, and in every one the driver of the cage was elderly. This shit has to stop...I'm not sure there's a subject that I'm more passionate about than the subject of elderly drivers...it gets me fucking furious...

RIP

Heard about the two accidents while we were there. Also heard from the people at the front desk of the condo ( Sunday the 19'th ) while listening to the scanner that there was an accident on 93 around exit 26 or 27 some time that morning. The police were looking for and arm, leg and part of a hip of a rider....

I don't have a problem with elderly driving, but I think they REALLY should pass another test, maybe every year, after a certain age. Many of them ARE dangerous on the roads. (bad vision, nervousness, health problems, lack of judgment)

I'll bet there was not even skid marks. from the man's car.

Always be looking ahead.

No sightseeing or wool gathering.

I would be amazed if there was not time to avoid or stop if she saw when he 1st started drifting into her lane.

It is not her fault but we know we lose every argument with a car.

They do NOT see you. Every year there are 3000 accidents at railroad crossings being hit by something 10 feet wide, 12 feet tall a huge headlight and a horn that can wake the dead and is in a known place. A motorcycle is invisable.

May God keep her sole and watch over her children
