Slower traffic keep right

Just on the news.

Massachusetts police have got a fleet of new unmarked cars specifically aimed at catching road rage on the highways AND even more specifically, the people who CAUSE it.

They will be actively stopping and ticketing drivers who are going slower than general traffic in the fast (passing) lane. A $100 fine for every offence. They said that they understand that there is always a reason for road rage and it's usually inattentive drivers hogging the fast lane going 55.

AT FUCKING LAST!!!

Glad to hear it.. not only does it cause road rage it makes it unsafe for everyone when u see people start tryin to get into small gaps between vehicles or weaving..

I saw an unmarked Dodge Intrepid pull someone over on 495 a couple weeks ago, so there are definately new under covers out there.. Typically I've always looked for fords.. crown vics, mustangs, caprice classics.. which used to be easy to spot given they had the two big yellow lights on the inside of their headlights..

I always try to stay to the right as much as possible.. and I always try and look over at people to make sure they realize they are being passed on the right, sometimes it clicks.. but most times it doesn't. I don't even mind going 65... in the car.. but since everyone is doing 80.. it doesn't feel as safe..

And you gotta do what's safe.

look for those small small multiple antenna.

recall one time this van was doing posted limit on left lane and would not move. traffic started to form, so when the traffic cleared up a bit i passed on the right and get in front of him then i did about 5 less than him. about couple min. later he must have gotten my message and got on the right lane. what an idiot.

That is great news. Left lane bandits cause so many traffic clogs on the pike when it gets down to two lanes.

It will be interesting to see if it actually gets enforced though. I can't see them ticketing people going too slow when the slow people are actually going the speed limit. Maybe if they were doing 50 in a 65.

I've seen a few maroon intrepids. One last summer had a C5 and a porche pulled. I bet they got a handful of little paper slips.

That is what I like about ME and CT. Both of em have signs that tell you what each lane is for.

Massachusetts cager belive that directionals are a sign of weakness.

They also believe that the left lane is the slow lane. Then when flash them and ask them to move out of the way they flip YOU the bird and slow down causing you to pass them on the right.

How safe is that.........not very.

goes out to all you left lane under the speedlimit driving aholes!!

Yeah, THAT advise goes unnoticed by the general public..........

So now a cop will ticket a driver going the speed limit in the left lane.........talk about a big waste of energy........

What that driver needs to learn is to USE the rear VIEW mirror..
move right when faster traffic approaches from behind.

Regardless:
Too frightened Blue hairs who see underneath the steering wheel but over the dash won't be doing that anyday soon.....
They are too scared when passed to begin with...............
and unless the next lane is open for miles they won't commit to getting out of the way. The paralyizing fear of an accident will prevent that.

How about a refresher course every ten years???????

ALSO: Have no fear, if there are three lanes going the same way on a (six lane) divided highway...its OKAY to pass on the right. Essentually, what the center lane accomplishes on left hand exit ramps............Like I-84 west of Hartford CT........

Its the more common four lane divided "highway" (Rt 1 except Saugus, Lynnfield) with two lanes in each direction where its NOT okay to do that.........

Educate thy neighbor: left blinker is the European flash to pass............doesn't piss off the driver ahead. But they notice....and sure they look funny at you (like look at that moron...)when you pass......BUT you passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in portugal driving in the left lane and not passing is a worce offense then speeding.
and
If another driver that comes up on you has to move right to go around you, they will slam on there brakes once infront of you and it would be your fault. So people over there follow the rules and you can spot a out of towner with no problem.

I hope this means they'll also stop those assholes who pass you in the far right lane doing 80 when you've got your right indicator on and are trying to get over for an exit.

*That* pisses me off more than what the people in the far left lane are doing. I understand that the two phenomena are related, but I think it's better just to flash someone who's going slow in the left lane than to go whipping by someone on their right.

why? why not pass on the left like you're supposed to? That's what the left lane is for. If you're driving down one of the middle lanes at a reasonable speed and some other guy's hogging the left lane going slow why is it suddenly OK for some assface on a cellphone to pass you on the right? I'm talking about people who pass in the *far* right lane, where traffic is supposed to merge and exit.

This is another problem with massholes. The right lane in not soley for merging. I see people all the time merge onto the highway and jump directly in the middle lane. Even though there is no traffic nearby in the 1st lane. This prevents people in the far left lane who are going slow from moving right!

In Mass, passing on the right is illegal even if ya got a moron in the passing lane going slow. But I've been pulled over for going with the flow of traffic, traveling in the center lane to bypass said moron. I explained it to the Officer that I was going with the flow of traffic and the moron shouldn't have been in the passing lane at the speed he was at and got let go.

BUT one thing that royaly pisses me off is people that use the breakdown lane when traffic is backed up. I don't know how many times I've almost taken off the nose of peoples cars with my fire truck that get that lame-brained idea when I'm trying to get to a wreck or car fire on the pike.

I find it completely amazing when I see rescue go by with about 2-3 cars in tow! WTF?

That will almost get you shot in NY.

Another amazing phenomenon is when people think that an exit ramp is two lanes. I see this all the time on the ramp from 93 north to 128 south. Especially when I'm on my bike. You'll be following traffic ahead of you, waiting to merge onto 128 (slow and annoying as it may be) and some idiots will be trying to pass you on the ramp!? I'm guessing these are the same morons who use the breakdown lane.
