A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. - John Stuart Mill
Those are great. Cycle World article on them this month.
I'm not sure it would be the ideal sole bike but I'd quite enjoy one as a backroad toy.
I vote SV but you said no nakeds due to cleaning issues. I can tell you now the naked SV is a piece of cake to clean, and I manage to keep mine spotless with minimal effort. They can be had for $4k in mint/low mi. condition, and with that other 2k you can do some very nasty mods to the suspension and get some touring gear as well.
If you want the sport look, you can do a new SV650S for less than your $6k budget, or do a low mile SV1000S likewise. The SV1k isn't as high strung as a liter I4, and where it does have power it's usable (so they tell me).
Here's an interesting tard:

like skierx said i think an vfr or sv is what you might be lookin for. after getting off my vfr and sitting on a 600 i felt like i was on a torcher rack. i had an fz1 and wish i still had it. r1 power you can ride all day.![]()

Life is a challenge. You can take the risk and experience it, or sit back and watch it go by. I choose to experience it. (W.L.Heath)
Fear is the incubated subjective perception of the inevitable.
SV1K. They have been letting them go for cheap leftoverStill 'cheap' when you toss on the full fairings that are available. Look GREAT too!
Of the 600s (not "new" 05s) I have to go with the 600RR.

ok who vote HONDA?:
"fuckit!"
id go with the 636
New S3 or Superduke both awesome, I'd love one. But 6k won't buy either, and I don't think any amount of cash can buy a Superduke in the USA this year.
This bike seems to have gotten forgotten
with the introduction of the 600 RR
but what about its older brother...
its cheaper and with maybe less
aggressive ergos...
the Honda 600 F4i ?
why buy one of those new when you can buy an RR for just about the same money and have a nicer looking faster and better resale. Nothing has change on the F4i in years. Not that it is a bad bike or anything but.....
The deal would have to be real sweet.
The Kwak dealer in NH came back at $7200 for the zx6-rr 2003
Still spendy for an '03 considering the improvements this year for the 636.

i just got the Kawasaki flyer and here's what marketing said about the new 636.
"The new ZX-6R is the most aerodynamic Ninja sportbike ever built - even more streamlined than the leading-edge ZX-10R."
im sold.![]()
"fuckit!"
If comfort is a concern get the J2 ZX-6R/600R. Otherwise I vote for the 636 in that magma red color.![]()
I've read the honda has a really tall first gear and is not comfortable at all because its so racy/tiny (relativley). Don't count the Yammi R6 out either. You could prob get a smokin deal on one because it's not a new model this year.
"You never see a motorcycle parked outside of a psychiatrists office"
so far the 600rr is winning in the poll. but most of the talk seems to be around the 636!!

R6 seems like a good bike. Or a used 748, but there goes ur comfort.
based on the poll I am buying this.
$7985 out the door.

did you at least go to a kwak & honda dealership & sit on each one & talk to a dealer about em?
you should also know that if you're planning on wrenching on your bike, Hondas are generally a COMPLETE PAIN IN THE ASS. i remember all the headachs that we had w/ an F4i down at VIR just doin simple stuff like coolant.

I have had a Honda for the last 4 years, not one problem. I had a Kwak for 2 years.... with problems.

The only "intuitive" interface is the nipple.
You will all laugh but in OHIO a new
2005 FZ1 is 7400
If no Superduke next year then that is where I will end up. Complete painted factory lowers are another 500. Tuned 125 hp 74 ft pounds and yes heaven forbade an extra 70 pounds.
